buprenorphine?

hello everyone - reading your posts has helped me in many ways.  i keep struggling with getting off buprenorphine tho.  anyone ever had a problem with this med?  i originally started it to try to detox myself...funny huh...NOT!  now, i am using it just as i was using percs, vicodin etc. etc.  believe it or not, i get this stuff from a supposed dr. in mexico...i just email him and it arrives a few days later via ups.  what i don't understand is that when i take it, i feel differently than i did while using the other previously mentioned meds.  it helps a ton with my depression, helps with the migraines which got me started on all this stuff to begin with and just gives me an overall sense of well-being.  the vicodins and percs always made me feel edgy but with tons of energy.

my fantasy is that i will find some legit dr. who will prescribe it to me to treat both the migraines and depression, but the realistic side of me knows this is highly unlikely.  i keep trying to kick it, and i go thru the withdrawal process about twice a month....it totally sucks.  i can't seem to make it past a week without caving in.  i really feel like it is hopeless at times - like right now.  any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated - sorry for the length of this post.

long time addiction wiht hydrocodone, then a year or two a go strated with the oxycondone. withdraw from percocet its rough at best. from oxy a nightmare. Now have a Dr. who percribes to anyone addicted to opiates---- Bupernex although it's an injection. it's the Bup, so trying to use as litle as posible. alos Zanax at night helps me make it thru 8-12 hours with no Bup. If anyone has a suggestion for Bupernex withdraw PLzzz let me know. Thanks you guys are all so understanding. Try and stay in touch, even if you "fall off the wagon", you're here for me and we're hear for you

i am really interested to read you comments on buprenorphine .. to me it has been a wonder drug to get me off morphine abuse .. lethargy while withdrawing i can handle, the withdrawal from ms contin i couldnt face, so in that respect alone it has been a life saver. i will be interested to see how i manage to withdraw in about 10 weeks time and will keep coming back here to see how others are coping - i started using ms contin as a relief to chronic depression (i had bouts of suicide attempts, 3 in all) .. in that respect it has also been fantastic ..

- to phd2002 i am also completing (haha!!) my doctorate and teaching at a university - i have just come clean to a collegue ( a superior i have known since i was an undergrad) as he questioned my 'strange' behaviour recently. I am waiting for his response on that .. but i sympathise with your position .. hope thing work out for you & good luck!!

i do know of these sources, but i'm sorry i cannot give their address.  first of all, i am trying not to use them as they will make you go broke and become an addict...i cannot, in good conscience, lead you down that path.

second, i don't know you and do not feel like getting busted by the feds or whomever...no offense.  you can get buprenex in an in-house detox center.  i did, so i know it's possible.

I can sure relate to you, we live in Nebraska, next door, but are from Iowa originally, I know resources there are scarce. Have you tried just typing buprenex in your search engine to see what comes up? I have visited some of these sites, I don't think any of them are near us in this part of the midwest so if you want to go that route you may have to drive some more. I will go back to some I have viewed in the past recently and see what I find and write back to you. Keep posting, there's a lot of help and support here. Take care. Irishrose.

I have been battling my heroin addiction ever since I did my first hit 4 years ago. After failing every treatment program there was I finally had some success with the methadone clinic. After 9 months of methadone treatment I finished my detox and was clean from all opiates for 19 MONTHS. I Relapsed 5 months ago lost everything and was evicted forcing me to move to a small, small, small town in Iowa where I was lucky enough to have some relatives take me in. I transfered to the closest methadone clinic and I drive over 100 miles every day to dose and receive no carry's as of yet. I am trying to find a doctor or any way to obtain a sript for Buprenorphine. What does a heroin addict in a small town in the middle of nowhere do to get help? Any help would be apreciated. Thanx.

The withdrawal symptoms after quitting long-term Buprenex use are considered "mild to moderate" compared to cold-turkey heroin withdrawal. The symptoms I experienced after 2 months of Bup use were extreme, almost paralyzing lethargy for a couple of days but after 4-5 days I was pretty much normal again.

hi - thanks for your feedback.  i have also used the 0.3 injects - they work well...but, when i've gotten off them...more withdrawal - maybe i didn't do it slowly enough?  i wish i could get a dr. to prescribe it to me...the sublingual tabs are also available online, as well as the injects.  you can only get the injects thru some shady type of sources...they are called private sources, and some are reliable - some are not.  i found one in mexico that was, so i lucked out.

It was prescribed for me by my addiction doctor, who simply phoned it in to Walgreens.

The only Buprenex I'm aware of that you can get online is the sublingual tab form, called Temgesic. It comes in .2 mg sublingual tabs, which are way less effective than the .3 mg injectable buprenex owing to the fact that the rout of administration -- i.e. sublingual versus injected IM -- gives you far less bang for your buck, as it were.

i'm curious...did you find buprenex thru an online source, mexico or find your dr. acually prescribe it for you?  for me, the cost of it without being able to use insurance is reason enough to stop it!!  thanks for everyone's comments...

I used Buprenex for 2 months while detoxing from narcotics, and I must say it was awonder drug. But, as you now know, it is addictive. What I did -- and this is my suggestion -- is to taper down your Bup usage till you get to one amp a day or even better one half an amp per day. I dosed myself twice daily, and it was always a bit difficult for a couple of days every time I lowered my dosage (e.g., from 1 amp twice a day to 1/2 amp twice a day). But once I got to 1 amp, I jumped off completely.

What I felt was 3 days of pretty intense lethargy, but just allowed myself to lay around around read. It felt like getting up to go to the  athroom left me out of breath. But day 4 was much better and by day 5-6 I was feeling pretty damn good.

Good luck to you. Plenty of people have  gotten off Buprenex, because although it's addictive its withdrawal symptoms are classified as mild to moderate rather than severe like pure opiates. The longher you've been on it, the longer your lethargy may be, but you can overcome this. I promise.

Hello and welcome. I too suffer from depression, and it is by far the most terrifing aspect of my withdrawal from narcotics.Narcotics;i.e. vic's norco, oxy's ect. helped my depression more than all the physc. drugs combined. The problem was of course addiction and increase in tolerance. Bruprenophine was studied at Western Physc hospital in Pittsburgh for just that reason with excelent results in the treatment of clinical depresion. The problem remained the same however in the accelerated need for more. Did you find this to be true? Ive never taken Bup.I guess were on our own with this. I know the drugs ended up making my depression worse and I know I have to stop. I'am one month clean now and hope this time I can make it. I wish you all the best, hope this helped.  Shane
