car accident :(

Well I was in a car accident, broke my hand in 3 places and had a concussion.(not my fault, some drunk, ironic I suppose) I don't really remember much, I hit my head pretty hard, I'm ok, everythings gonna be fine but.......I'm positive some one gave me opiates at the hospital(I think just once or twice) because I woke up in my room and I could "feel it" all the addicts no what I mean. I was using hydrocodone for about 7 months about 20 pills a day, today is my 1 month clean date.....so do I Have to start over? this *****, I was really excited an happy I quit but now I am scared that I will have to go withdrawals again all the emotional and physical pain. Is this gonna happen again? should I "Prepare" again?

man this *****..

PS" I tore up the pain med scripts the doc sent home with my wife

You dont have to start over with your clean time.  Just rest and heal those broken bones.  You shouldnt have any wd's if they only gave you a couple.  Good for you in tearing up the scripts too!!!!!  Let us know how you are doing.........sara

No way do you have to start over...you didn't know and you didn't tell them you couldn't take opiates...its not your fault. Plus, you were in a bad accident that actually required pain meds. I don't car how bad of an addict you are or were, we shouldn't have to suffer through pain because we were once in active addiction. If you needed them, you needed them...you recognized it and stopped it immediately. Good luck to you and congrats on your clean time.

dont be overly sure they gave you something- I think they dont often give opiates to head injury patients- something about the risk of coma if I remember right. Maybe they only gave you NSAID type meds and the "feeling" you had was due to your head injury? at any case, dont sweat it, you didnt willingly relapse anyways. Keep on truckin, and hope you heal fast!

Sorry to hear about your accident. I would not either start my clean time over. If it hurts too bad call DR and get something else for pain. Hope you are better soon.

HI,
Im so sorry you had an accident.I hope your feeling better. I wouldnt think you have to start your "clean" time again. It wasnt your choice to have ingested the pain med's. As long as you dont get started all over again and you have to vigilant about this.
This is what got my little sister in trouble. She is a pill user and got clean at rehab. She had a few years under her belt and had to have a root canal done. She was gven a small script oof her DOC vicodens, and I cautioned her on this. She told me her husband was managing them for her.  6 months later she's crying on the phone to me that she has been lying about her clean time is is totaly using again. She didnt take my advice again and now is the meth loop. She is down to 5 mg but is having the mental part of jumping off. This is also a person who does not do w/d's well at all, were talking ambulances and hospital stays.
I know in a AA, its called "clean and sober". Its blessed though, if you are prescribed a medicine and as long as you take it as your supossed to. Anyways, thats how my old home group handle it.
I so wish you the best of luck. Hang out and post here a lot. Its a great help.
peace
