clonidine and seroquel

Hi,

After being clean for 18 years, I fell into heroin addiction again.
I am going to switch to methadone for as short as possible time ánd the plan is to use clonidine when I stop taking methadone.
Can I use this in combimation with seroquel?
Also, do you have a suggestion how much clonidinebI should take and for how long?

As far as I know, I should take it for a week with a man of 1,3 per day and after a week build it off in 3 days.

I am using half a gram per day. How much methadone should I take. The plan is to lowwer the dosis with 5 mg. Per day.

greetings, Esmeralda

Seroquel is an extremely strong anti psychotic and anti depressant drug as you probably know. I used it years ago for Borderline Personality Disorder and Depression. It is way, way stronger than Xanax which is also very strong, so I would not be taking anything if you are on Serequel. It's a sedative and tranquilizer. Clonidine is not addictive and fantastic for withdrawing but you have to check with your doctor if you can take together. I really would not think it would be ok but you need to check. Like A.B.N. Said you should not touch the methadone to quit heroin, unless you cannot stop and have tried with no success. Even then I would try a sub program instead of methadone. Give it a go cold turkey if you are strong enough. Double check the Serequel with Clonidine to see if you can take both. Best of luck to you, IM so sorry you turned to drugs again after 18 years without them.  That must of been a very hard decision for you to make. I prey things will turn for the better for you : )

I am proud of ActingBrandNew that he was able to accomplish what he did "cold turkey", but everyone is different. Not just in how their body will respond to the drugs withdrawal, but in how you developed mentally and if you can handle "cold turkey".

My husband is a strong and amazing person. Friends of his that I knew that were not half as strong in my opinion were able to get beyond their addiction, but after 14 years, my husband still contends. He has 17 months, and I am so proud of him, but he is on methadone to do it right now...

Talk to the methadone clinic that you plan on getting the medication from. They should have a good support staff. If you fell off the wagon after 18 years, you have not healed what is at the emotional root of your addiction issue. Unless you deal with that, you cannot completely heal.

The clinic in our area has developed a fantastic support of monthly counseling and monthly group counseling. I would prefer his not being on it, but I understand it is his process. And "as short a time as possible" may not be as short as you think, and that is for your own good in giving yourself time to heal.

Get more information and let your doctors fill in your questions. There is also acupuncture that I know does work. It is a pressure point on the ear that keeps the cravings from obsessing your brain. You need the treatment once a month after you have gotten "into" it, but you will probably also have to deal with withdrawal. Your acupuncturist will most likely have some herbs that  help this process.

Good luck, you KNOW you can do this!!!

Personally...I would just quit the Heroin. I wouldnt use methadone or anything else for that matter to help with the detox. Its just replacing one for another. I quit Heroin 4 years ago...was shooting A LOT everyday. I went cold turkey and got through it. Im so glad I didnt use a crutch because then Id be trying to detox from that now.
