methadone tapering/withdrawal

Hello. I have been on methadone for 11 years. I was at 55 mg for years...dropped to 33 mgs ,3 years ago....I started tapering down and I am at 16 mg. I am dropping 3 mg, during the month. I will keep doing this until I hit 2 mg and do that for 2 weeks and quit. Will the withdrawals still be bad? Or should I quit now and pay the piper? Thanks to anyone who can give me some advice...Good luck to everyone trying to get off this stuff.

I went and got the vits you told me to get the same day. Thanks. I leveled out...only mild cramps and rls. I think my body adjusted to 16 mg. You have a good idea what you both helping me means. It means a ton and I thank you both for your help and time. I got some freakin dark circles under my eyes...you know the double chin factor? I got that but under my eyes. I will take it cuz it could be lots lots worse. Thank you both so much.

Like Gnarly said I used the Thomas recipe it helped some you may wanna look it up like I said before it was one of the best feelings I ever had stopping the Methadone but I still have few demons to take care of hope to get started soon

Hey Dude just checking up on you   have you tried the vitamins yet  it will bring you some relife  it really helped me so if not get on them keep posting for support we all want to see you make it.......Gnarly

I am 49 years old by the way...got into this crap from wounds I suffered in the USMC. I found out taking more pills made me feel great with no pain...Life was good...what a first class fool I am. I made Michael Jackson look like a rookie. I saw what he was doing and thought what a puss...I was glad to wake up at night to use the bathroom because I could chow down some more pills...I am lucky God was on my side and I am not 6 feet under like a lot of people. How I wish I could turn back time. Gnarly I think I may hold at 14 when I go back...14 for 2 weeks , and 13 for 2 weeks...see how it goes. I am sure it is wishful thinking that a little pain daily will help when I jump off at 5... Again ,thanks for yours and anyone's help... It will be great one day to be free ,have my family no longer having to see me so f-ed up.

I will do that. I think working helps keep my mind off it...On 16 mg for 6 more days...then 15 for 7 days...then 14 for 7 days. Then it is back to the clinic. I would tell them now that I feel bad but I get 30 day take homes and they may get pissy with me. Not sure what to do...I thank you both so,so much for your advice. I read this often and thought it wise to post as it is great support. I have come home from work and just tried to sleep. I can deal with the cramps...but my feet is what does me in. I have also noticed I am very moody. I have an 11 year old son who is a great kid...he knows something is up,not sure what to tell him. It kills me when he asks if I am feeling better and if we can take the dog for a walk. I was addicted to pills and went on meth as a cheaper easier way...I am ashamed and guilty beyond words. My wife is so good and supports me and hates seeing me suffer. It is all my fault and my fault alone. I don't want to be a slave to demon anymore. I suppose I forgot how it feels to be normal...been an opiate addict for 14 years...and will be until the day I die. I want to do a few shots at night but know that is not the way. I know what is coming and this is just the tip of what I know is coming...Thanks for the words...but most of all your time.

you can do it I went from20mg to 5mg and jumped at 5mg mine was fast taper I did it all in 12 days but it was doable but to fast to feel comfortable not sure their is a way to be comfortable but I can tell you life is great without Methadone it will be worth it Gnarly gives great advice and helped me threw mine you cant imagine how much better you will feel

HI  well your doing great  how you feel at 16mg??  for me it was tuff below 20 but I got off it  went from 150 for 7yrs down to 0 in 8 1/2 months  it was tuff but it is so worth it  get up to walmart and pick up a 3 in 1 vitamin calcium magnesium and zinc  this crap robs your body of those minerals making the withdrawal that much worst take 4 with breakfast and 4 with dinner in a few days it will start to help  going slow is helping something I was not goood at hens the 8/12 mo taper from 150  I wenrt in and out of withdrawals constantly the real key I fond was letting your body be the final judge in when to drop I got good at being uncomfortable but always tyed to keep it to a minum keep posting for support after taking it to 1mg it was misrble tapering below 5 and think that is a good number to jump at we all want to see you make it as for what to expect it is different for everybody a lot has to do with how long your on it what dose and age the cards where stacked agenst me but i survived just know you can do it message me if you like..........Gnarly
