hi,
imo 10mgs a week would be to fast,
how long have you been on it?
it that the highest dose you have been on?
Hi there, I agree that 10mgs /week is way too fast, you would probably end up back on methadone because the withdrawals will be too harsh. Methadone has a really long half-life and leaves the body very slowly, so in order to avoid withdrawal you must take it slow. I, being on methadone myself understand your urgency to get off but realistically if you go too fast you are going to blow it. I am sure you will be sick if you do your 10mgs/week then you won't be successful. Slow and steady wins this race. I know that is not what you want to hear but it is the truth. Please keep posting and keep us updated, I wish you all the best!
I also agree with the others. That plan gives the methadone a week to reduce in your blood and a week to stabilize. I wouldn't go any faster than what your provider is recommending. You may even need to slow it down in the lower doses. If you go too fast the withdrawal at the end will be worse and longer. It takes awhile to get over methadone, no matter which way you do it, so I think it's better to do it with as much comfort as possible. I was in to much of a hurry and ended up relapsing over and over for 2 1/2 years. Had I tapered more slowly I would have been over it faster. Keep us posted on your progress.
