I have withdrawn from meth using the medication you have described and it was tough for me because I was not allowed a slow enough taper but I know it is doable and highly successful when done very slowly. If you only have a 10 day window be prepared for it to be somewhat difficult but not impossible. If you have access to any benzodiazapine and a mild opiate such as tramadol you will be a lot more comfortable. The detox med will make you very tired feeling. Also the other effects that go along with meth detox are longer acting than other opiates and that is what makes meth detox so difficult. Don't beat yourself up if you don't get it right the first time but if you find you can't do it, instead of returning to meth try suboxone....it is a lot less restrictive than methadone and less side effects. Good luck.

I came off everything I was doing CT as well. You CAN handle the detox, I watched the news alot, for the first time as when I was using it was all about me. When I really saw what was happening in the world, and all the terrible tragedies that were occurring , and all the people that were suffering from the effects of chemo, radiation, dyalisys. I counted myself lucky that my detox was counted in weeks, and had 100% rate of survival. My detoxing was put in perspective.  I know how hard it is, but it's so doable. As far as I know, the purpose of methadone treatment is so that you access an aftercare program while not being sick. I hope that you've done that. The fact that you didn't know what tapering meant, suggests to me that you haven't had access to NA yet, and you so desperately need to. Honestly, getting clean is the easy part. Staying clean requires work. Please consider getting to NA, asap. A closed same sex meeting is always the best way to go. You're in my prayers Tinkerbell. NH

You state your Methadone amount in ML, this must be liquid, I was on 130mg daily and tried to detox at home several times, it is bad, I would prepare a head of time. From day to I would be come so weak I had to set in a recliner, getting up to bathroom only, I purchased medication for diarrhea, drinks to keep my me hydrated, by day 4 I no longer could set in the chair due to weakness, set in a chair for shower, day 6 all activity ceased, had to be helped to bathroom, anytime I ate or drink I had awful diarrhea, even takings meds for it, day 8 found it difficult to breath, went back on Methadone, over and over. Had knee replacement surgery July 9,2013 decided this would be the time to get off methadone, calledDr Yee in Las Vegas, he spoke to my doctor, had to be off Methadone 12 hours, Ordered Fentanyl 125, for two months, it takes this long to clear the body of Methadone since it is sneaky and hides in the body, after two months it will be easier to come off the Fentanyl, I'm thinking Rapid Detox, it is very expensive. However many people suggested tapering, or cutting your dose, until you are at a low dose than go off, I don't know about that, but read other post this is the worst drug to come off from, you need to make sure to let your mom know that you will look like you are dying, you will be sicker than you have ever been, you will need someone to bring you food and liquid and you will not sleep for many days, but I know once this is done you can take back your life, you will get to be a person ! You will care what is going on around you. Again I don't know how you will feel tapering, going down a small amount at a time, I do know if you go from a high dose IT IS SO BAD, this is from experience. This time I will make it, I have been off18 days, even with the Fentanyl Patch I can feel that dreaded fatigue, but not so much that my life stops. Good luck

Taper as low as you can it helps!!!!! I was on 40mg went down to 10 over months...and from 10 mg in 2 weeks I wentto 7.5mg to 5mg to 2.5mg to 1mg and had NO physical withdraw at all...I had depression but I'm not sure if it was wd or hormones... I am 11weeks pregnant and have had no meds in almost a week and feel great I spent a week in bed sleeping a lot...but I contribute me feeling crappy to my pregnancy there were days(about 3 or 4) where I really wanted to take something but didn't.... also I used nuerotin (gabapintin) for withdraw and it works wonderfully... it is not a narcotic and it helps to slowly reset your gaba receptors in ur brain which helps with withdraw and depression / anxiety... good luck if u just taper as low as possible before u stop completely it will make it a seamless process!  I promise!!  U can do this!!! :)

First, congratulations on coming off H.

Wish I had something positive to say about coming off the Dones, but Coming off the Dones is brutal but DOABLE. Most of us on here are a testament to that.

It's different than H and pills because Done stays in your system longer. I was sick as a dog for a good 2 weeks.  I was only on for a short time though, 43 days, but it's very different for others who have been on longer.  The result is the same though - not easy but VERY doable.  The best way is a very slow taper. I have idea what lofexidine is. You've come this far, YOU WILL MAKE IT!!!!! Have faith and visit your friends here, they help tremendously! Good luck

There are a lot of us that got ourselfs down on the methadone and have some time behind us..I was on it for 12years and it was prescribed. I bought adderral off the streets and added to snort with the dones..Then I took a Benzo to come down..So my stages were a bit different then one who just comes off the Dones but not by much at all.. A nice and easy taper is the best..When you get down and almost done I sure can help you out as so can some others..Just keep doing the taper OK?? I jumped at 30mg with the 2 other meds and I am no young chic so it was a bit long..You can do it, I know you can..

Good job on quitting the H! That's a great thing. I say prepare yourself for a nasty case of the"flu" give or take a few symptoms. Keeping busy and your mind occupied will be very important in the beginning. Exercise even if just a short walk also helps. Most importantly DON'T PANIC ! Often times the FEAR is worse than the actual experience. You can do it! Please keep us updated on how you are. Best of luck to you.
