coming off suboxone

I have been on suboxone for 5 yrs now and before that methadone for 6 yrs I'm ready to come off but extremely scared! I know what it feels like to detox off methadone and suboxone w/o tapering down. It was forced because of jail,I do not want to come off suboxone again like that. I started at 24 mgs a day and now I take 8 mg one day and 4 the next day and I do that every other day. I plan on then going to just 4mg then 2mg then pieces. I hope to be totally off suboxone by summer. It's just time to get off of it I know I can do this,I was wondering if anyone had tips on what they did when tapering off suboxone and how they feel now that their off.

Hey, just wanted to see how you are and update you on my progress.  I'm on about day 30 and the nasty stuff is gone but I'm still not sleeping great and feel tired.  Nothing I can't live with.  I've heard that it can take 60 or 90 days to feel really good, but I can wait.

The codeine might slow you down a bit but I wouldn't taken it if I had some, just for occasional relief.  And yeah, not like regular opiate withdrawal.  It lasts a lot longer.  I also found bud helped, depending on the strain.  Anything with kush in the name is OK, but just about anything else could just increase anxiety.

I jumped at 8mg.  First week is hell, after that it's a waiting game.  You'll still feel yucky, but not miserable.  The worst ends at week 2 and you'll feel close to normal at end of week 4.

I had problems tapering, too, which is why I jumped.  If you see a doctor or go to ER I'm sure they'll give you at least a little clonidine.  Small dose benzo with muscle relaxant properties helps, too.

I know what you're going through.  I couldn't even leave the house to get help the first week.  Not even enough energy to type on a computer.  I don't know if I did the right thing by jumping, but after this hell it will be a while before I touch another opiate.  I had a few suboxone left the first week and thought of tapering but felt like such a zombie just said **** it and threw them away, no regrets.

hi there, finally someone who has been on both, i just switched to subs from 10 years of methadone, 2 years clean in between, stupid? but it has been a week and my head hurts, leg spasm, digestive system, pelvis running to knees pain, also back pain, feels like every organ in pain still! while i dont feel like i am in withdrawal in other manners, why is this i have no relief? I do have back problems, etc. But it was not like this on done, or the two day withdrawal to get on subs, is it the drug, withdrawal. i think a bit of alcohol withdrawal too! But i am ready to give up suboxone at 12 mgs, i think, is this high enough to not feel the pain, as with methadone i could take codeine, this blocks it, my dr. lied to me! And how do i taper like you did, what did u do exactly, please help!

Thanks friend!

I was on methadone for about two years and then switched to suboxone. I wasnt on a high dose only 12 mgs but i tappered down 2mgs every two weeks. I didnt experience any withdrawls while i tappered and when i made the jump i had very doable withdrawls. I think the slower i tappered the better. That way it gave my body time to adjust to the new miligram. Good luck to ya....Angie ♥
