darvocet and pregnancy...help

Hi everyone.  I'm new here and I really need help.  I am 4 months pregnant.  I have lupus which is an auto immune disorder that causes me great pain at times.  I am taking Darvocet N100 650apap...been on them now for about 3 years....my script calls for it 3 times a day...However depending on my pain level I take 4 or 5 a day....Long story short, I REALLY want to get off of them...I dont care if I have to suffer for the next 4 months until my pregnancy is over.  The guilt is starting to really depress me...My dr's keep saying that darvocet during pregnancy is safe, but my conscience is just really getting to me on this...I am PETROFIED of withdrawals though....Can anyone give me a tapering schedule?  Please....I feel like I am losing my mind.  Help me.  :(

Thanks for your help....I've decided to break down and call my high risk ob and ask for a tapering schedule....I've been fighting doing this for days because I thought I could do it on my own....But I really want to do what's best for my baby at this point...Again if they wanna throw me on all kinds of drugs after I give birth then fine....I just want the baby to be okay....So they should be calling me back today with some kind of schedule...Wish me luck...Thank you guys SO much again....

hello, good to see you getting help
i also have auto immune plus liver disease
you can defianlty learn to live with the pain narcotic free
i do not trust medical professionals that say "oh, this will not harm your baby"
why?
because i took pazil while i was pregnant and 2 yrs later they stopped prescribing this drug to pregnant women because of developmental delay
you have options, you can discuss a taper plan with your ob/gyn
seek inpatient detox
a taper plan for darvocet should be simple, but you never know when the addicted person is pregnant
during your taper it may help to have weekly check ups with the ob/gyn
darvocet is actually a drug that is commonly used during inpatient detox,
it is a short acting opiate, i am definanlty for the use of short acting opiates during detox
i hate to see people put on suboxone or methadone
please do not let your doctor put you on these!!!
prengant women run the risk of detox when they taper to quickly
you can work the drug slowly out of you and your babies system now
if you continue to take suck a high dose everyday, 4 xs a day, your baby will detox and then treatment will be left up to the a developmental ped.
please do not panic, you can get through this!! it is always best to know your treatment options and all possible complications

anytime! Glad I could give you a few encouraging words. A PM is a private message. If you would like to send one, you would hover you cursor over the person's name that you would like to message. Then, click on "Send Message". You can do the hover thing only if the name is highlighted in blue.

Thank you SOOO much for your response...Finally a place where I can tell people things and not get beat up too badly over it....I know what I need to do, and I'm going to do it...I just really want that taper schedule...This illness that I have is so hard....And we thought about adopting, but I really just wanted a baby of my own....This is our second one and we are sooooooooo DONE after this....lol...You are so right too in that I know I will feel like a  huge weight has been lifted off of me....I stopped taking them with my last pregnancy right away....But it was easier that time because I was only take 2 sometimes 1 a day.....So coming off was simple for me...I tell you...I felt so free...I didnt feel like a slave to the drug anymore....my day didnt revolve around darvocet like it always had....it was the best 9 months ever....Needless to say I had a csection which is major surgery....And I'm sure as eeeeeeeveryone here knows with major surgery comes those wonderful painkillers....And I've pretty much been on them ever since...Thanks again for your support Timmy VD...Question...I'm new here so I'm still learning abbreviations...What's 'PM'?  You said to PM you anytime?

I can completely empathize with you, I know about the guilt you are feeling. I am not going to tell you that it's safe, because I don't know that answer...only God knows if the baby will come out okay. I'm not going to go into a big long lecture about babies and drugs because I know you are already beating yourself up about it...so I'll spare you that.

I'm sure someone will come along and let you know how to taper, but while your doing that try to find other means of pain management. Also, cognitive therapy is a fantastic tool during this time. It has helped me immensely, and I would recommend it to anyone in a similar situation. Your NOT losing your mind. You will be okay. Set your mind to get off the Darvocet, and when you do...you will feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your back. You will be amazed how powerful your mind can be...

Good luck to you, and if you need to chat PM me anytime.
