depression UGGG

I got off Fentanyl over a month ago.  I am still taking small doses of my oxycodone but plan on coming off once I feel better from the Fentanyl withdrawal.  My question- I am having severe depression problems.  The things I once enjoy give me no happiness, I could literally stay in bed all day (I don't but I feel that way).   I don't enjoy my family and perfer to isolate.   Is this normal?  Is this part of withdrawal or is something else going on?

Hi scoenen, what ur gong through is part of the process, when we take narcotics for so long it eats up you endorphins, the pleasure sensor in the brain and it takes time to build up again i give u props for jumping at once, i did the same thing it takes time, good luck Cookie

I couldn't handle being on the Fentanyl.  It was like I had no feelings- no highs no lows, just existing.  I never laughed when I was on that stuff.  It totally changed my personality.  People I barely knew noticed.  So, without informing my doc, I picked a day and detoxed- it was utter hell.  When I went to see my neuro spine guy, he laughed when I told him I just CT and asked me how it went.  He then suggested that the next time I wanted to come off that I talk to him first and try a taper.  I told him I would rather get it all out of the way at one time then prolonging agony,  I was put on these meds for pain, which is legit, but I find I want to use more than prescribe or use that my pain is bad so I can up the dose- not a good sign.  I also heard on this board that there is a thing called rebound pain and I am hoping that once i am off everything I will be able to manage my pain with OTC meds or something non-addictive.  I just can't take using this s$#% anymore.  I feel empty or hollow.  I also can't stand needing to take something in the morning- not just because of the pain but also because I am in withdrawal.  I am hoping that coming off the oxys will be a little easier than the Fent.

I guess I am torn.  My husband and doc think I need to be on something but it is slowly killing me.

Hi congratulations  on getting off Fentanyl . I take that you are in  a lot of pain . Are you getting off the pain medication because of doctors orders . Sara is correct directing you to your doctor . There are many plans to help you withdraw . But depending on your situation your doctor maybe trying to control your pain . It is not a sin to be on pain medication as long as you are not abusing it. Please consult your  doctor .I do not know your situation , But when I withdrew for oxycodone it came to mind of matter . You matter . See your doctor .

This is all part of the wd's.  If this doesnt get better talk with your doctor as there are anti depressant drugs they can give you.   Getting outside and sitting in the sun for a bit can help too.  I know this part is tough but it is only temporary..........sara
