difference between oxy and vicodin

I have a question about the difference between oxy and vicodin are these two drugs seperate addictions for instance I am on day 7 (yippee) without and oxy's I have been taking some small doses of vicodin for the last 7 days to keep myself from going completely off the deep end although there have been many many times where I thought I was going to absolutly lose it, I have been through this once before my main issue with detox is anxiety is by far is my worst symptom I can deal with the lack of sleep, and all the other terrible symptoms but the anxiety makes me crazy, if I only take smal doses of vicodin for the first 10-12 days (max 3 5mg pills) will I be addicted to the vicodin too? I am at a loss of where to go from here my plan was to taper off the vic's but if I feel ok I will just stop any advice on how this works would be appreciated...

Not sure if you are talking about oxycontin or oxycodone pills in various mixes and forms.  Either way, oxycontin and percoccet have the narcotic oxycodone in it.  Oxycontin is pure oxycodone in a time release form while percoccet is a mix of oxycodone and another OTC pain reliever.  Oxycodone is a stronger narcotic then the narcotic in vicodin which is hydrocodone.  Both will cause WD.  The WD from oxycodone was always much worse for me then hydrocodone but some say it's the same.  What form and strength of oxy were you taking?  If you were taking 1-2 oxycontin, whatever the strength, per day and then switch to hydrocodone down to 15mg of it per day, IMO you most likely would feel some form of WD.  That being said, how bad it is depends on a lot of different factors including how long you were on the oxy, strength, how much per day, were you abusing it or taking as directed, etc.  You should speak with your doctor about what you are feeling even thou you said yourself the little amount of hydro you are taking helps.  Both are opiates and taking the hydro is keeping the worse of WD at bay.  Will you just get addicted again?  I don't know if they are seperate addictions to different things, IMO I would say not much difference.  I went from hydro to oxycodone and there was not much difference in of things went for me.  Both are opiates, both work on the brain in the same way (i believe), both are addictive, both cause WD.  It sounds like you are in a moderate form of WD because you have cut the dose and are taking a weaker opiate.  Mind you I am not a doctor so don't take my word as gold.  You should talk to you doctor, maybe they expected this.

I was taking about 160mg oxycotin per day for about 4-5 months, I have taken vicodin plenty of times before for months at a time with little withdrawal I know that the amount of vicodin I am taking is no where close to that dosage of oxy and I think once I get past the first 10-12 days I will be okay tapering to 1 vicodin per day than half than none just not sure how this all works.

You have a good plan so stick to that. And no,it's not a separate addiction. You are addicted to opiates,it doesn't matter what form it comes in. Yes,some are stronger than others but it still boils down to the same thing.

Just keep doing what you're doing. It doesn't matter what's worse etc...don't focus on that. The point here is to be opiate free and to stay that way!!
