does a beta blocker help addictions at all?

I use to love to drink and smoke? If a friend would call me to ask me to go out I would go. Now I don't ever go. Does a beta blocker in anyway help you to stop drinking or smoking because you think those two things would be hard to do? I found it a piece of cake!

I was addicted to smoking cigs not addicted to acohol just enjoyed doing it once a month. Now I have no interst in either so I was wondering if the beta blocker had something to do with that? I was in the hospital due to my heart so I am on the beta blocker for heart ressons.

Clonidine belongs to a class of drugs called central alpha-adrenergic agonists, so no...it is not a beta blocker... Beta-blockers have been used in cocaine rehab as it can control the "fight or flight' response ...not sure if it has been used in alcohol or narcotic addictions

Beta blockers are used during w/d's to help,,,,increase levels of dopamine, the happiness amino!    - and of course high blood pressure.

Don't get too over confident, though - many a man has made that mistake. I don't rememeber your d.o.c. - but phantom pain has made many people fall when they didnt expect a thing was wrong. Study your enemy well ...................
