Everyone is slleping and I am awake with a buzzing sick to my stomach feeling. Is this normal. I just want some sleep and some peace. Anyone have any experience with this med????

The very first time I took this medicine. It put me in lala land.. if that makes sence. It just gave me a sence of well being and it made nothing really matter to me. That feeling lasted for about an hour. After that it completely stopped working. It didnt make my mood better or anything. It was like I was taking nothing and my depression actually got worse. So I dont know how it will work for you, but I just wanted to share my experience with you on that particular drug. I then went on Zoloft with tremendous improvement in my mood in just a couple weeks. However just because ieffexor didnt work for me, doesnt mean that it wont work for you. Stick with it for a while and see how it helps. Good luck to you, hope everything turns out well! :)

Just read your post and I am taking effexor. I didn't sleep or eat really for the first week. All I did was sleep prior. It will even out though. I take meletonin with my effexor and my doctor said it was fine I take 9 mgs every night for sleep. The whole bottle wouldn't have helped in the beginning however. One thing I can say for effexor is that it has been digging me out of the deep dark pit that I was calling life. Despite the side effects in the begining it has been worth it for me. My doctor said a few crackers or something at each dose helps the upset stomach.
Good luck to you. Becca

Hey, I just got up and read the thread.  I would definitely not take it at night, but I guess you have figured that out by now! : (  I think you need to call the doctor today, and let them know how you felt.  It could be the lack of xanax in your system too.  Abrupt WD of benzos can keep you awake, feeling crazy too!

Just some thoughts.  I hope you get some rest, sweetie!!!

Gnarly. I do that!!  Soooo 8 hours later and I'm still up. My friends are going to watch the baby and I will try to get some sleep. Researched the med and read that my dosage was way to high. Not very happy with the doc right now.

I forgot to mention to take the effexor first thing in the morning rather than at night.  As it promotes the release of noradrenaline, that's just what you don't need at night.

I have just had my first night of sniffing pure jasmine oil & will report when I'm a few more days into the experiment but I have to say that I do find it noticeably calming.

There has been a recent study where they found that the smell of jasmine oil caused the same changes in the brain as benzos such as valium.  The downside is that you need to buy pure maximum strength oil which is about the same price as gold, (no kidding), but of course you need only a drop or two on your pillow slip or some cotton wool.  If it works as well as it seems to, it will be well worth it for me.

Hope you get some sleep soon.

Mad tell me about it. I feel bad for my kid!!!  I spoke to the pharmacist about melatonin and he told me not to take it with the anti depressant. I initially was taking it even before my stopping tram.

Thank you guys so much. It feels so much better to know you are not alone. Before I decided to face my addiction I felt like I was in my horrible world. I will try to relax a bit. But now I also hear the baby fussing. Maybe he can keep me company.  Also how long should expect the buzzing?  Like I said before I took the effexor at 10 pm.

As you are only recently off the tramadol & effexor has a virtually identical chemical structure to the antidepressant in tramadol, this may be effecting your body's response to the effexor.

Having said that it's common enough for NARI/SSRI combo drugs to cause a bit of a speed rush with the initial doses.  This class of meds don't usually help with anxiety or insomnia so you may want to try some melatonin; valerian; kava or nyquil for that side of things.

The effexor effects should settle after a few doses.

Trying to match your sleep schedule to a baby's is challenging enough at the best of time.

Lookingforhealth (and tea),
I remember when my kids were infants and I didn't get any sleep. It was very upsetting. I would think that my entire world would crash or something like that. Then I read about how we can still rest even if we are not sleeping. Of course it's not the best, but apparantly just lying down and letting your body relax and not "do work" is a very good thing. So, right now if you are not actually sleeping (which would be my guess if you are reading this) you can still give your body a renewal time.
Also, glad Gnarly has weighed in here regarding Effexor.

Gnarly I was sleeping like crap. I was taking anti anxiety for that but have stopped since my new doc says it's addictive.  I just wish I was home.

I will look for tea!  Something to take my mind off this feeling. I took the first pill at 10 pm. I am surprised it is so strong it is my first day. I am trying not to panic and wake my friends up. And I know once I settle down the baby will wake up. Does it get better after the first dose I will be scared to take another pill tomorrow.

Hi looking,
Here's what happened to me. I knew it was the AD causing the "crazies" because my reaction was right after the pill entered my system. I was to disoriented to drive and made my husband come and get me at work.
I felt very anxious and called my doctor. they told me to Calm Down and that the pill would wear off and I'd be feeling better in a little while. They told me to drink some warm tea and eat a half of sandwich.
I know this is even more troubling and hard because you have a baby.
Can you get a cup of tea? and try to remember that what you are going through is temporary. Even if you stay up all night, you will still be okay.
I will say a prayer for you.
Hugs,
Lindsay
