i just had surgery and took pain pills for 5 days....my hubby laid them out before he went to work...i knew i could take them all then hurt till he got home, or i could be responsible and take them right. i do recommed if you have a recurring type pain you do your best to stay off the pain pills. i understand that there will be times you HAVE to have them. but, please remember that addiction is tricky and your body will manufacture pain to get you to eat those pills. if your addiction thinks you are going to feed it when you have pain...you WILL have pain...be very careful. oh and welcome to the forum...great place for support.
Welcome to the forum! I just thought I would share my story with you as an example maybe. I was using up to 20-25 lortabs per day. I tapered off of them May 14/15th. was my last day. I had known probably when I had my next surgery and/or c-section I would need to take narcotics again. Well, I had a surprise injury 3 weeks ago and have injured my shoulder. (Still don't know what it is) My mom took me to ER and they gave me an RX for lortab and I told my Mom I'd fill it later b/c I wasn't risking her dropping me off at home w/a bottle of pills. So when my hubby came home he filled them...I don't see the bottle... he leaves the rx'd dose out before he goes to work and NO more than that. I just don't want to risk anything so I don't want the temptation. To be real honest they lortabs did not help me and the dr changed me to percocet (which in a way was good b/c wasn't my doc and didn't like how i felt) and those are working better pain wise...but believe it or not I wish I wasn't taking anything and that my shoulder didn't hurt. It's different (for me at least) when you get clean time then have to go back.
I hope that gives you some idea of how it may work in the event you need them!

This is a problem and a concern for all us addicts. Eventually all of us will probably need to take an opiate for pain (surgeries, accidents etc). Very easy to cause a relapse. Your best bet is to have someone strong hold the pills and only give them to you as presribed.
See if your doctor can give you something non-narcotic first. You may find after a short time, that your pain is not as bad as you had thought. Pain pills stop the production of the bodies natural pain killers. It may take a few weeks for them to kick back in.
well Dave from what I have learned here, no if you start back you will backslide to the initial cravings and back to your 10 - 14 a day problem, Sorry but from the wonderful people who you will meet here that has the same problem as you or has been in your shoes if is a continuous procedure to stay clean and you can never take another lortab again or you are back to square one... it's still early others will be online later to give better advise then me... but pm me anytime you need to talk
