false positive for methadone could any of my meds caused this? Dr says no

I am so confused & really need help understanding what has happened,I was tested for what I thought was opiates cause I am prescribed them from my dr & the clinic I go to requires that all patients who get narcotics have to be drug screened from time to time anyways Ive had blood drawn in the ER during a trip there to get treated and apparently my dr had labs drawn & had me drug tested which is fine I don't ever mind because I do not take any illegal drugs & I take all my prescripts that I am prescribed anyways long story short when I had to go to dr appt a few wks later my dr informed me that my blood test I had done showed up methadone mind you I had never even heard of this stuff so I knew I hadn't taken this so I demanded a new test & he done urine test this time,I asked is any of the medications he had put me on could have caused this positive for methadone cause I'd never tested positive for it before & I had been put on different medications over the last 30days from him but dr swore oh no none of what he gave me could have done that & he dismissed me from the clinic,refusses to treat me now,I am now without all my pain meds & other meds I need & he wouldnt tell me what my last drug screening said.This dr prescribed me cymbalta,zonegram,dilatin,cenestin,lovastatin,hydrocodones,oxycodones,morphine & this awful pain med I couldnt take called dilaudid (hydromorphone) does anyone know if that stuff can cause someone to test positive for methadone?or would any of the above? I am very upset that I was treated the way that I have been by this clinic/dr & now I dont know what to do or where to go to get my medications & I know I will be going into withdrawal from my pain meds cause I am completely out as of today & Ive been on pain meds for at least 7-8 yrs now.Please help if anyone has any information or advise

I haven't taken anything except opiates and my suboxne and came up positive for methadone. I was freaking out! Can my unisom and melatonin together come up as methadone? He asked if I would like to send it to see what when where and how and of course I said hell yes... Someone plz tell me what tall think?

Unisom made me test positive for methadone, which I've never taken in my life!!!

thank you all so much for your input,advice & kindness this helps me alot :) to answer the first question yes I had signed a pain contract with him I am had seen this dr only for a short period of time though too because I had lost prior dr due to him retiring so I had only been with this dr who did this to me for about 3 months but I had seen another dr there years ago & odd thing is I had a drug test come back there before when I was getting screened for my opiates & it would never show up even though Im an avid opiate user daily have been for over 6yrs now & then I had one drug test come back that said I had tested pos for meth & Ive never tested pos for any type of street drug before in all my life so I made them re-test of course & it came back clean but I dont understand why I dont show up opiates like I should although Ive been told by other people I know who work in the medical field that woman who have had hysterectomies they dont hold things in their bodies (urine/blood) quite like the normal person would so that could be a possiblity of why I don't show up positive for the opiates or whatever like most people do I dont know?anyone else heard of that?also I do take an asthma inhaler plus I am prescribered a nasal spray for my allergeries that I use on a daily basis so Im wondering if it really wasnt something I am taking that caused me to test & show positive for methadone? Also dont we have the right to get a copy or see our drug test results? whats really annoying is this dr was in the middle of getting me set up to have me seen by a neurosurgeon to get my surgery done on my neck that I've been needing done badly for years & now he won't do a thing I guess since I'm no longer his patient.I also felt very humiliated when I walked into the clinic to pick up my sons medications because everyone there apparently has been talking about me cause I got this terrible vibe from everyone & the looks they all gave me was awful & its sad knowing that everyone in town knows my business & is talking about something that shouldnt have even happended & even at that shouldnt even been in my chart period cause I didnt do anything wrong but take what that dang dr gave me! Im just at a loss cause I still have no dr yet & I just hate going to the ER but thats all Ive got here its a small town but I know if I go to the ER Im going to be looked down on like Im just there for drugs but my dr said in the letter he sent me that I was to go to the ER if I needed & he could see me there for the next 30 days until I find a dr....what a joke I tell ya

That happened to me too.  At the time I didn't even know what methadone was.  When they asked if I had taken any, I said no, what's that?   It was early in my pain management program, so they put me on probation and only gave me a weeks worth at a time and tested me weekly.  When I couldn't come in because of work, they cut me off.   They are being closely scrutinized and who knows, maybe your dr is being monitored and it freaked him out.  In any case, when that happened to me I asked if they could at least give me something for withdraw, and they did.   You may need to go to an urgent care or er for temporary assistance for now.   I called my doctors office and explained what happened and they got me right in to help me...but he didn't want to continue me on long term opiates so I had to start over with meds to avoid wd again.

Hmmmm well shoot! I guess the mystery continues as to why I tested positive then!  Maybe I snuck a pill in my sleep or something! hahahaha I wouldnt put it past me back then! :)

T.-  its specifically with methadone, as far as I know.  With other opiate testing, certain types of inhalers and some non steroidals will cause a false positive but I'm pretty sure that's rare.

I never knew this! Will benadryl give a false positive for all Opiates or specifically Methadone??

I ask this because I had a dirty test once when I was on Probation (and I actually hadnt used for 7 days prior) but I took Benadryl EVERY night for sleep. I was upset because although I was a pill popping addict I was actually clean for a week then!! hahaha

Hi-    Yes! Call the doctor's office and tell them you want another,better test.

Benadryl and cold medicines will definitely cause a false positive for methadone, along with a few other drugs.  It's sad that the doctor didn't give you a chance to remedy this when this type of thing is not unusual!

Did you have pain contract with dr?  

I'm going to put my two cents in here.
I have seen this before with a friend. The friend was not the problem or the result of a drug test. The underlying problem was the doctor. Go to emergency clinic and tell them your story have them do a drug screen should be about $55.00. Urine test. Should have results in a day. Also have the results sent to, his doctor, don't send yourself have the lab send.

What OTC meds have you taken recently? NyQuil? Benadryl? If you've been with this doc a long time and never had a bad test, doesn't your track record count for getting you some latitude?

yes Im trying to make an appt with my neurologist as well but it takes about 2months to get appt with him cause he is totally booked and runs 2 seperate clinics in different areas so very hard to get in to see him

no my dilantin & zonegram are for my seizures which I see a different dr for thank God so I am able to get those :)

he was my primary dr and only dr I have besides my neurologist I see for my seizures so now Im stuck trying to find a dr to take me right away and Ive tried talking to him but he is being a real jerk and I dont understand why cause Ive not done anything wrong this really upsets. Thank u for your advise tho that is a good idea to get a drug test and try myself and maybe offer to do there also. Thank you

I've read many many story's where different chemical interactions can cause false positive . If I were u I'd try and talk to him . Mayb buy a home drug test and offer to take it at the Dr office? I'd look for a pm Dr right away bc thts ALOT  to ct off of. . What abt ur primary care Dr? Will they help u detox?
