fioricet and klonopin

I'm realizing after finishing a benzo detox a week ago, I might also be facing a barbituate detox from the phenobarbital and the fioricet. Im already prone to seizures. I'm having trouble knowing if I just feel uncomfortable or if I'm in actual danger. I'm so terrified. When I left detox they told me itsunlikely I'd seize but they didn't say impossible. unfortunately there isn't a doctor there and you must leave when you finish the protocol barring any unexpected spike in blood pressure. I feel so isolated... my drugs of choice aren't exactly common.

Hi ... For 15 years I took far too many Fioricet w/ Codeine.  Sometimes 20+ per day BUT by coming on this site, reading and asking questions I was able to taper and discontinue taking them. Today is day 22 free from taking Fioricet. I was originally prescribed them for migraines but found they helped in other ways when I took many of them.  As cork712 indicated, a week or so after I stopped taking them the migraines went away and I haven't had one since.  I honestly think they caused headaches for years before I stopped. I was told to taper slowly due to the Butalbital which I did.  Good luck.  Once they are out of your system you will feel so much better.

Hi...I too was an abuser of the F at one time.  The rebound headaches, sickness, tremors and such were horrid when I tried to stop taking it too.  I got help from mr Dr with phenabarbital my first time quitting those and I thought I was clear.  Little did I know about addiction then, so a scrip I had still in the pharmacy called out to me and away I went again!  The second time I went through rehab.  That's where I learned about addiction.  However I didn't take them seriously about trading one drug for another so I went fron barbs to opiates.  Didn't believe it could happen to me again!  But it did.  I hope you don't ever have to experience that.  I am so glad you are getting help getting off these meds.  You will feel so much better and wonder why byou ever wanted them to begin with.

I was on  Fioricet for nearly 4 years and now have been free of them over 90 days. They are definitely a depressant and also caused many rebound migraines in me (that's why I was originally prescribed them). However, as soon as my system cleared of them, my migraines have virtually disappeared. I still get them during hormonal times but it takes very little Imitrix (a sumatriptan) to stop it in its tracks. Follow other's advice re: slow taper for your own safety. I found a nice AA meeting which was fine with me technically being an NA sort. Keep in mind, the more time that passes when you stop, the less you think about F. Until you aren't thinking of it at all! If you really are finished with Fioricet, you can do it!!

Okay...so you're going back to now detox from Fioricet. That's a good plan because, yes, it WILL cause depression after awhile; especially at higher dosages.

You may eventually need the help of another neurologist BUT it won't be just for rx's. I think you've learned that lesson!  So, you'll be seeing a doctor now for?  Just curious...

Having been there, I'm sure you'll feel a lot better when you're off the barbs!

it's also hard because I feel that after being thrown out of a neurologists office for doctor shopping, I have no right to see another doctor and ask for more drugs. prescription drug abuse is huge  in my area and so many doctors are now  refusing to prescribe controlled meds and I don't blame them.

combining the benzos and the barbs actually made me sink into a deep depression but since I have quit the klonopin, even in my worst hours, I have not seriously contemplated suicide for the first time in 8 months. I know getting off the barbs as well will stop depressing my nervous system and I stand a good chance of recovering from major depression. I couldn't handle the intense sickness, not when relief was down the street at the pharmacy. I plan on seeing a doctor while I wait the minimum 14 days it takes for my insurance to allow me back into detox.

no I only take fioricet, the phenobarbital was only given short term while in detox. I went to detox for benzos. the doctor who prescribed the klonopin and the fioricet  was the same but I was kicked out for having a separate script for Ativan from a different doctor. I'm clean from benzos 15 days but relapsed on the fioricet. the doctor had given me unlimited refills on the fioricet and did not canc elthem when he stopped seeing me

You're taking both phenobarbital and Fioricet? Is it prescribed by the same doctor?

I had a long time addiction to Fioricet and it's not a drug that you can just stop abruptly. The seizure risk is great so a slow taper is a must.  Do you want to get off of these drugs?

Believe me, you're not alone!

Lots of support here...so keep posting.

Hey!
Glad you posted on this. Please, do not attempt to detox off either the Phenobarbital or the Fiorecet w/o a doctor's help - especially since you're seizure prone and you just got off benzos. I fully understand your desire to be clean. Just do it safely. Slow and carefully wins the race w/ these drugs. I'm sure others more knowledgeable than I will be along to offer their experience and support soon. If not, I'll bump your thread up. Wishing you every success in your detox and congrats on dropping those evil benzos!
