Ive been taking 5mg percs for 3 years now and its been a rollercoaster. I've quit a couple times and went from taking 2 a day to 14 a day but just cant seem to kick the garbage they just keep coming back. Ive been to my doc about it, saw a counceller and set up 5 days in detox but chickened out once again.. I did alot of research in the past 2 years once i realized what i had gotten into and how bad it rerally was. Its so hard for me to shut it down cause i have my business to run and have to talk to alot of people everyday and im sure you know how hard it is to act normal when your having withdrawals or doing your time i call it lol.. I want outta this BS what do i do? I feel suboxone is my ticket out but how do i get it?

You need a script for Clonidine in the U.S.  You are in Canada, right?

If you are taking 14 percs a day, this is what I would do.

I would do a slow taper until I got down to 1/2 pill a day.  Look at old posts here on tapering or google how to taper off of percocets.  The best way to do this would be to go to a dr.  Ask for his help on tapering and ask for a script for Clonidine if you can't get it OTC.  Look up the Thomas Recipe (bottom right hand of this page under Most Viewed Health Pages ) and buy the ingredients if you can't get the Clonidine.

If you were using the percs for the mental effects or the high it gave you to mask your feelings the mental part will be difficult during the WDs (not trying to scare you).  You will experience some emotions that you have masked during the past.  I cried about things that I had "pushed down" with the pills. Things that you didn't allow yourself to feel will come to the surface but you need to deal with these things.  It is part of the healing process.  A good cry can feel good after it is over.  You are not alone.  Please post during this process and let us know how you are feeling.  You know that you need to do this.  Do you still want to be taking pills 5 years from now?  Just think about what you are doing to your body and your brain.

Well then ok lol i see the picture yas are painting for here and wow im blown away. Thank u so much guys for the concerns and advice. Im all over it now i cut off all my sources and i had alot of them. i have no control over them anymore my friend has control of them and i get a certain amount a day till i get down to zero. Is clonidine a script or OTC? Oh and i live in fort mcmurray alberta vicki95. I think this is hard for me cause i get addicted to tooth picks lol and i started these devils dew do a big break up. all my sadness went away and ive been high ever since i guess. Does it make it harder to come off when youve been suckin on these things for the wrong reasons? And ya i let them dissolve i grew to enjoy the taste of these stupid things lol wowzers but ive had enough its affecting everything now. im ready to shut it down for good. Thanks again guys i feel better that im not alone

I agree with all of the above posts..  You will have to get off the suboxone after the percs.  You should get Clonidine instead.  It is helpful for opiate WDs and it is non-addictive.  I could not have done without it.  Due to your work issues I would suggest a slow taper but we cannot suggest how to do it.  A doctor would be a big help or you could google opiate withdrawal taper or some similar wording.

I agree with the above posters your habit is light going to sub would be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire......Vicci had a great idea do a slow taper off the percs sub is a lot stronger and can be very difficult to get off
dont believe the adds there is a withdrawal and for most its not a plesent one
where not aloud to give taper plans on the forum but if you ask your doctor just tell him/her that you would like to come off the pain meds to get a base line of exactly where your pain is.....this will drew no supisions from your doctor and will leave the door open for further discussion give it a try and stay away from sub..........Gnarly

Is there anyway you can take off for at least 2 days??  If you time it right and if you want to quit cold turkey or taper...you will need the second and third day off if possible.  Those days end to be the hardest.  I have heard a lot of people talk about subs and it seems like you are trading one problem for another.

Exactly what she said!!!!!!!!!  I think there is a definite place for meds like suboxone and methadone, but I don't think it fits you.  You can totally do without it.  All it's gonna do is get you on yet another med that will get it's teeth into you.

If you have a doc, talk to them about wanting off the med.  Clonidine is a BP med and stops most WDs.  Imodium is good for the stomach stuff and some of the other symptoms.  We can give you a list of stuff that you can buy OTC that will help a LOT!

You just gotta do it!

Sub isnt a magic pill.  It comes with its own set of issues.  The mental part of this addiction is what you need to focus on.  When you have really had enough of this then things will change.  You dont have to be a prisoner to those pills anymore.  You have it in you to stop this.   sara

You know what?  You can do this without Suboxone. To me, being on Sub is really just a money maker for the person you're getting it from: doctor, clinic etc...I know it's helped a lot of people but I wonder about that as well...It's really getting on yet another strong medicine and then tapering off of it while at the same time you are in recovery and learning how to live sober. You could probably do the same thing just tapering slowly off the percocet and I mean slowly so you don't have any withdrawal.

First, you need to make the commitment. Do you have a doctor? Talk to him and weigh it all out. He/she could tell you how it all works and give their opinion. You need a plan to help you stay off once you detox or taper and you need that plan right in the beginning. It's important.

I'll tell you: it gets a little exciting once you make the decision and are on your way. It's not as hard as you may be thinking...
