I also have drug induced epilesey so I have to take them id keep taking them for a couple of weeks to help with th wds see how ya feel tho mate
I wouldn't think you'd have any problems staying on gabapentin for two weeks but everyone is different. I've been on it twice. One time I used it for withdrawals for ten days and another time I used it for about two to three months for nerve pain. I stopped it both times cold turkey without any problems whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend that at all though. At the time I didn't know it could cause seizures. Even though though I was fine I wouldn't cold turkey off of it again. I know you plan on tapering though.
There are some horror stories out there about gabapentin causing withdrawals in some. There are also stories of people not having any ill effects. As long as you don't stay on it too long and taper off I think you will be just fine.
Remember, Mind Over Matter and you will get through this! You're doing great!

your so right it does help so effin' much .. So why don't they use this when people are detoxing off opiates inpatient it would be so helpful.. Just wondering, maybe because they want us to go through the w/d's so we will feel every single pain, sweat, diarreah, anxiety, tears, and non sleep and that alone is enough to make someone relapse .. But that is just some random thoughts on that.. i decided to refill my gabb. and stay on it for another week then start tapering .. Do you think that is a good plan?? Or am i staying on it too long??
Sophia
thank you for the good info.. that is really helpful .. But since i have never taken this in my life except for 6 days a go i started taking it when i started the d/t should i still be at risk? i plan on tapering tomorrow by one pill each day and so on and so forth.. see how that goes.. i also am on day 6 on my w/d's i wish you all the best of luck and a drug free life.. the problem isn't getting off the drug but staying off the drug.. talk to you soon

Hey girl! I am a double amputee and take gaba 1800mgs daily and am on day 6 of detox from perks. The wds havent been to bad, not great, but i have been on pain meds 7 years so i am sure i have a ways to go. Anyway, i just wanted to tell ya not to stop gaba cold turkey, you have to taper. I went cold turkey a couple years ago and ended up seizing and went to hospital. Not to say that would happen to you, but just be careful and look into the safest way! Good job!
hey Brian i only have a few gaba left i think like maybe 7 300 mg's left.. what should i do should i just go ahead and stop or how do i taper off with only 7 pills .. and how do i deal with malaise that draggy feeling really is blahh .. i have a script for 140 gaba should i go ahead and get it filled? any and all advice is grately appreciated..
Thanks everyone i am now on day 6 and still am finding myself having withdrawls if i dont take a dose in between my dose in the morning and the night dose.. i'm just hoping that it will go away now.. geez i'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.. I hate my children seeing me like this .. But i would rather them see me doing this rather than using .. Small children notice everything mommie your taking another pill?? that is really what opened my eyes and i am so thankful that i am going through this now instead of another few years down the road.. well i am not gonna whine anymore and just suck it up.. thanks for listening guys and i am really hoping i start feeling better.. talk to you soon guys!!
Hey I take gabby for drug induced epilipsiy I've found it does help with the wothdrawls heaps but like Gnarly said everyone different take care
Whoops....I forgot the "i" in doing!!!! haha.....sorry about that!
I was prescribed gabapentin for nerve damage once I decided to stop taking my pain meds. I too found it helped immensely with the withdrawals especially with the rls, sleep and overall edgy feeling. I only used it for about ten days and started tapering it on day 5.It didn't prolong the withdrawals at all for me and I don't see it prolonging the withdrawals for anyone. What you are experiencing are probably still withdrawals from the norco.I noticed withdrawal symptoms subsiding around day 5 but still had them for another few days. The longer we are on pain meds, and the more times we go through withdrawals, the longer and worse the withdrawal symptoms tend to be.
Gabapentin has been known to cause withdrawals in some people so just make sure you taper it once you feel it i no longer helping or you withdrawals have subsided. It might be another week before the withdrawals have subsided enough to where you feel ready to start tapering off of the gabapentin.
Hang in there. You're **** great!
Brian
normally it helps withdrawals but not in everybody as for prolonging them I would have to say no.....every detox is different try not to compare yourself with others it will run its course usually in 3 to 7 days a lot has to do with how long you used what dose and your age all play a role in how long it will take hang in there keep posting you should start to feel better in a few days good luck and God bless......Gnarly
