getting through withdrawls

I haven't posted in a while. but i have a question since i gave decided to quit taking hydrocodone after year long rollercoaster of dependence. the last time i quit i had stomach pain, anxiety, insomnia, and even paranoid dillusions. but that was from going cold turkey from 5 10,s a day  now im down to 3 of the 7.5s a day and im ready to quit.

my question is will Tramadol, Cyclobenzaprine, Carisoprodol, or Lorazopam (ativan) or a combo work to keep me from having the withdrawls as i have a good supply of those?

i really want to get off the hydro's but i cant stand to go through the withdrawls like that again so if anyone who knows if these drugs can ease the process please help
good luck to all and god bless

I finally gave up my year long Vicodin rollercoaster and flushed my Vicodin 3 weeks ago. I was terrified of withdrawls but I have also been on Tramadol for the past 12 months as well as Vicodin. Suprisingly with the Tramadol I felt vertually no withdrawls. However as Christos stated Tramadol can be quite addictive and cause siezures. I blacked out and got a concussion a few weeks ago, I was alone so I don't know what happened if it was or was not a siezure so please be careful if you take it.

I also am taking a regular routine of Ativan. So I can tell you with the Tramadol and ativan I have felt pretty good. I did find out that if you just go cold turkey on Tramadol you can have withdrawls as well and I'm terrified because that will happen with me tomorrow when I run out. Tramadol also does "cover" The Vicodin addiction and withdrawls but I personally believe that you you are on Tramadol long enough without Vicodin, this will get the vicodin out of your system. So it may not Help the addiction, but it certainly can help get through the physical stuff.

So, whatever happens to you I urge you to stay strong, you can get through this. Peace and love

during a professional detox, most hosptials or clinics will use right around the same standard procedure...i went through a medically supervised detox and i was given lorazepam. the ativan will help with the anxeity, restessness, the muscel spasms/cramps/aches, insomnia, and other mental wd symptoms, you just have to be very careful in how long you actively use the ativan as it is very addictive and the wd's are  horrendous and can be life threatening..the carisoprodol(generic-soma) is a muscel relaxant and also metabolizes in the body into mepobromate(miltown-an old school anti-anxeity drug that used to be recreationally popular in the 60's, but was widely replaced by doctors cuz fear of abuse by benzos), so it will have anti-anxiety and muscle relaxant effects about near the same as the ativan, but that is physicall and mentally addictive as well so be careful..i used tramadol tog et myself off a huge amount of Heroin and oxycontin, but i was only able to stay off for two months, it will only mask your addiction, and quite possibly just move it from hydrocodone to tramadol itself, it is very addictive and the physical wd's can cause seizures, it can help reliee the physical wd symptoms you feel from the hydrocodone but it really only masks them and covers your addiction, so i really doubt that will relaly help you get clean, the cyclobenzoaprine(flexeril), is basically useless, i guess for some  it cna be a mild sleep aid, it is a muscle relaxant chemically structured to tricylic anti-depressants, but really doesnt help ease wd at all in any way i tried many times before, and its useless..you could realistically detox yourself with the meds you have but to actually attack ad work on/fix your actual addiction you will need treatment, therapy, you will need to go to as many NA meetings/group meetings and one-on-one meetings as you possibly can go to, they will help you stay clean and truly sober..carefull with the meds you have they are all addictive..good luck to you-christos

I'm not sure about those drugs.  I tried a few things for the first couple days but all the meds were making me feel so much more out of it than just dealing with withdrawals... I used motrin & tylenol at first sometimes every few hours when the physical pains were very bad, tylenol pm or benedryl for sleeping, plus the amino acid protocol really helped more than anything, plus the occasion emergen-c, red bull, lots of hot baths, exercise and eating healthy.  Its tough but you can help yourself get through it and that made this time so much better than the other times.  Other times i felt like I needed to punish myself for letting this get so out of control but once I concentrated on feeling better it got so much easier.   I am still struggling on day 12 but figuring out my aftercare plan is what I'm working on.  This forum is great also when I was so fed up and hurting I'd just lay in bed and read old posts and other peoples struggles and it gave me hope.  Good luck and congrats on saving yourself.  Now that I am clean for the first time 5 years I realize that those pills are the worst kind of poison...
