it was very obvious from Mike's last 3 posts that something was up and he was most definitely depressed....that was obvious....i just knew something was coming.....as weird as it sounds, almost glad it was a drink or ten and not some other drug or his original doc....didn't know he had a problem with alcohol though (or maybe he didn't and this is a first, i dunno)....no matter how much i love lortabs and used to love ativan, i never had and never will have ANY desire to drink, don't even like to do it socially, so it's hard for me to grasp the concept that an addiction is an addiction, and a pill popper can easily become an alcoholic....don't get that one....i wouldn't be able to do it in a million years....it gives me a frickin headache, and that's what the lortabs were for.....to take those headaches away!!!!  anyway, just a long way of saying that glad Mike hasn't gone back to the pills, but sorry to hear that he's numbing himself with alcohol now....but sad, you're a good friend to him, and thank God he finds some solace and comfort in talking with you....that's a blessing for him, i'm sure....and also for you, just knowing that he WANTS to talk with you....

I am sorry that Mike is having a a hard time,  but I am also sorry that you are in a position of thinking you have to know what to do to make it all okay, because you can't possibly do that, nor should you have the additional responsibility of thinking you have the right answer.     As a friend we are always there to listen, and to give our advise when we know the right thing to say, or to give the support that is needed.  Sometimes situations are bigger than our best intentions, and we need, and it is okay to say, "you are my friend, I will always be here for you but this is bigger than the both of us" and recommend a support group AA NA or counseling.  Perhaps if you are really good friends with Mike you know of a family member or one of his friends where he lives that you could call that would be there for him unconditionally during this set-back.  I am trying to think of suggestions that will benefit the both of you.  Both of you are in my thoughts, if there is anything I can do please let me know.    Jeanette

Yeah i suppose but thats not seeming to matter much..I am very upset and don't know how i can help him...besides just be his friend..he's very depressed..and has been all along..i don't know...I care about him and many others..any advice would be appreciated..all i can really do is pray for him and cry..

Just like any of us ..when he is ready to seek help/support here..he will. he is far from happy about it..he doesn't know exactly what made him give up for now..I don't think alot of us do when we relapse..he chose to drink instead of the other and like he said..it doesn't matter. it's still an addiction and just as bad....all we can do is be here for him when and if he chooses to come back..He is well aware that he has support here and that liquor isn't going to "fix" it..

tell mike the alcohol has been calling my name too since i wont let myself take any pills. I traded the alc. for the pills so i know for a fact i cant drink since it will just start me back down the same path. Just tell mike us southern boys gotta stick together and hank did write a song about us.

Hey everyone....I am on the phone with Mike..he isn't giving up..He slipped up and started drinking..he isn't doing smack or pills...but addiction is addiction and he isn't happy about it at all..he'll be back on hopefully soon..

Mike let me add something that you may already know. People who relapse on heroin are the most likely to od then any other drug. When a heroin addict relapses they usually start at the same dose that they finished at. You know that an addict doesnt say "well I havent done it for awhile so I"ll just do half a bag",,right. This may sound strange and I"m not encouraging you to use but if/when you do plz think about what I"ve said and be careful. Dont forget that theres more people pulling for you in the forum than at the drug house.

Sorry Mike but I disagree with the others. Are you saying smack as in heroin ? If so its not just a slip up. I"ve seen a few people "slip up" on heroin and not make it back.Like cathy said ,,its what you do now that counts. Quitting is not the answer its the start. Its nice to come to the forum and talk to other people struggling but it takes alot more than that to stay clean.

Mike, do you know how many wonderful people on here that are making it that have also slipped up in the past?  So you slipped up, you certainly are not alone.  You, too, can make it out of addiction.  Please post and tell us what you are feeling.
