help with hydro coldturkey withdrawal

I am suffering unbearably through my second day of withdrawal and I decided to post because just reading.g everyone else's experiences have been soon helpful. I am a 30yr old female and have been going back and forth with pill Dependency for 7 years. It all started when my son died, he was 2, and I am ashamed to say that that was when my hydro addiction began.... That was a terrible time In my life and to just be real honest with u guys, the hydros kinda saved my life at the time I began taking them, BC it was my break from reality and the drug helped numb the emotional pain and trauma bc honestly had I not made pain pills my crutch I would have died then and never noticed. Anyhow I have been on Hydros now steady for 6 month's, I take about 23 hydrocodones that are 10/500 each. I want out and it has to be coldturkey. How long and how bad is this gonna be? How do I make this easier on me?

I am so so sorry for your loss. My goodness, I wouldn't even go as far as to say you're ashamed at yourself for beginning your addiction there - if there was ever a time where a person wanted to escape reality - I can imagine that would be it. I have never personally lost a child, but I am 37 weeks pregnant and just the thought alone of losing her... again, I am so very sorry that you had to experience that. You are in my prayers.

I see most people have given you the low-down on what to expect with cold-turkey withdrawls, but my question to you is have you considered going in for rapid detox? I'm not sure what state you live in or what the policies are - in New York certain hospitals have in-patient facilities. This is still considered "cold-turkey" as it is rapidly removed from your system - however they can offer you medication to make the experience slightly less uncomfortable. Usually this is a 3-5 day thing but for some people it ends up being a great thing.

Otherwise - with the amount you were taking and for how long - I will be completely honest with you - it won't be a pleasant ride. If you're already two days in you probably already know this. So if detoxing cold-turkey at home is your plan, prepare for the worst flu imaginable, make sure to stay hydrated, keep hot baths at the top of your list, try not to make any plans for a few days, hibernate on the couch and ride it out. It won't be fun - but it will be a short few days compared to long you've been hostage to this feeling - and the reward will be well worth it. I hope you're hangin' in there the best you can and I will continue to pray for you.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. Very sorry. I can completely relate to taking pills to forget reality from trauma tho. I started taking pills when my husband was hit head on eight yrs ago. That was a very stressful time. Then my daughter became handicapped three years ago. And now I have been diagnosed with m.s......
I am completely stressed.

However I did walk away from a very deep large oxycontin addiction. I'm over 71 days sober.

I am proud that you stepped forward and shared your story and desire to stop the meds.

It will be a hard five days when you go thru detox. Yet it can be done. When are you planning to detox?? And if your doing it now do you have all your proper tools ready?  Mainly a support group here and around you. All the ingredients for the Thomas reciepe. Or all that you can get.

Also please post along the way. There's so many of us that have gone thru detoxes going thru or thinking about detoxing your in great company.

Also welcome to the forum. Were all here to support you. Help you. Listen to you and all we can do for you. This is an awesome place. With caring loving people that don't judge or condemn one another. We all want the same thing. Our lives back. Or as I say. A clean sober simple life.

I wanted to reach out and say hello. I'll support you all the way thru. Ask as many questions as you'd like. Knowledge is power. I'll keep ya in my prayers. Warm hugs from me to you. Bama

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. That is so sad.  I certainly don't understand your pain but I too used percocets and oxy for grief when my husband and sister passed away.
Most people start to feel better on day 4 or 5.
If you scroll down to the bottom right  of this page under most viewed Health Pages you will see the Thomas Recipe.  There are lots of tips for what you need for opiate withdrawal.
Imodium is a must and make sure you stay hydrated.  I have been drinking a ton of gatorade.  Try and eat as much as possible.  Crackers, soups.  Also Ensures or Boost really are good for you when you can't eat alot.
Keep posting.  There are alot of us going through it.
