If you go to the manufactuers website, they have ways of getting suboxone for very little money, it's a government program or something like that... do some digging and googling.

Congratulations on you and your wife making this important decision. No time like the present, as they say - things will not get any better by themselves with this problem! There are several alternatives. I know a few couples who have had this problem together - and have been able to get in to recovery.

If you ask 10 people what you should do, you will probably get 10 answers. Everyone has their own experience. And then there are the scientists and the medical research and literature. All have validity, some more than others.

I believe that to achieve a long-term recovery from this disease requires a combination of therapies - meds, support, talk therapy. Some use 12step support - I am a huge believer in that. Some get medication help, both to detox, maintain, and/or deal with other possible issues. Talk therapy, or counseling, is helpful to unravel some of the issues that make addicts self-medicate.

There are many physicians that specialize in addiction medicine. You can find one in your community by checking the website of their society, asam.org and/or calling a reputable treatment center near you and asking for a physician referral. Make an appt, get a consultation, consider the options.

There's lots of good people here that will share their experience and support as well. I wish you and your wife the best.

Welcome to the forum.  I am so sorry to hear that you and your wife both use.  I can't offer any advice there because I haven't had any experience there.  I do know that I had to go cold turkey.  I couldn't taper because I would end up taking them all.  If they are around they will be used with me.

Good luck and stay here the people are great.

I have been hearing good and bad things about suboxone on here.  Today completes day 7 of CT for me and it has been difficult to put it mildly.  I have sort of looked into suboxone as a means of coping w/ the wd's and legitimate pain. . .but have found that it is extremely expensive - does anyone know the manufacturer of suboxone?  If so, I am wondering if it would be possible to get it for little or no cost through PPA (partnership for prescription assistance) as i have no health ins. let along rx coverage.

thanks,

meg

hi shane you can get clonidine from the dr.  it is a blood pressure med.  used for detox.  it helps a lot with the symptoms and you wont get addicted to it.  also look in the healthpages here and read the thomas reciepe and the amino protocol...it has aminos and vitamins for detox.  good luck and keep on posting.

Welcome - I just logged on after being away for at least 5 months - this is a fantastic place and you will get a lot of great advice.  I kicked 10mg Vicodin, up to 20 per day using Suboxone.  I took it for about a month and now I'm doing great with the support of a sponsor and a ton of great friends, in my daily life and here in my virtual life.  You will get a lot of advice here - I'll start with this - you've taken the hardest step of all by saying Hey, I need to stop, now you have to find a way to stop and stay off the drugs.  Second, remember this is advice and information from a lot of places - some of it is great, some not - take what you need, what helps you and leave the rest.
Good luck - many people will be around soon to answer questions and offer support.  I for one couldn't do the cold turkey or taper so the Suboxone was it for me.  Keep posting= sobriety is worth the work it takes.

I tried many times to quit and finally got buprenorphine in detox, (suboxone/subutex), and it was the only thing that was able to take that addiction away.  It is true that I am still dependent on it to this day but I would not trade it for anything now.  Keep in mind it is only for the last resort people that have tried everything else and it is a serious drug, (some liken it to methadone light), so do the research if interested and "google" it a few times.  This was the way I chose and for the last year and a half it's been a lot better than trying to score.  I even have a half a bottle of norcos in the shelf above me, (for months), and have no compulsion to use them.  I don't have to worry about running out in a week and where the next bottle will come from.
Best to you
