helpful hints

I've been an addict for several years of up to 20 vicodin per day and yes thousands of dollars. I was scared to stop taking vicodin because of the withdrawls. I talked and listened to several people and they all had the same comments I see in this forum. I came to the conclusion that my life was going to end or restart. I spent $30k in Narocnon (rehab) and I am a new person. Let me give you all a few tips I learned that may help your withdrawls.

1. Stop taking for 24hrs-it's still in your system so you won't be filling like ****.
2. Step into a sauna for 2-3 days for 2-3 hours. (I seen that people with a higher tolerance than me needed more time). Codine is stored in your fat cells and you will sweat this out, taking out of your system much faster. You will already feel nausea so step out for a few and get back in. Now instead of this long recovery, you already bought yourself a week. Your not sleeping because it lies with your fat and muscle cells.
3. Now start on vitamins after 1 and 2. It's pointless to start your vitamin diet before or during withdrawl period. I can't tell you what vitamins to take since I had a DR give them to me after evaluation but an all purpose vitamin will help.
4. The hardest thing to get over are the mind games. We all depend on these pills to have fun, relate in life, deal with pain, or whatever. Get off your *** and do something. Walk the dog, go back to the gym and sweat more, spend time with the kids, stay away from friends who shares the same life style. Don't sit down and read a book when your mind wants to play games with you. I was taught not to take any pain meds during recovery and I didn't have a problem. But I seen others who were in much worse pain than me and they were allowed a motrin.
5. Sleep depresion. If you follow the steps above, your body will need the rest and you will sleep. Once those vitamins kick in and your body starts coming normal, it will allow you and want you to sleep. You will also start feeling a normal heart rate. Through these tough few days, it's a fast recovery so your heart is adutated but don't worry. I found this to be normal.

I hope this helps. ANYBODY can do it. I seen it with my own eyes. This is not just for vicodin but any drug/alcohol.

Best Wishes on your new life and may God Bless. It feels great to be free.

I had back surgery several years ago. The meds came a few months before surgery. The pain was unbarable so even then, I took more than directed. After surgery the surgeon sent me to my family DR. He would perscribe me 90 vic per month. NEVER did he direct me to a different med nor teach me the outcome of what could happened, This continued for a couple years. Yes, my family DR. Duing this time that wasn't enough pills so I bought them from the street spending tons. I can't believe how many teens are into pills, It used to be alcohol or now maybe it's both. While I was in rehab, 50% of the people was abusing meth, 30% was vic, oxy, percs, etc. and the others were crack and coccaine. Today I see many involved in pills and it seems to be everybody....I mean abusers. I think it's great you are under control and you most definately need to hide them. I was an alcoholic in high school but grew out of it once I enterd college then I injured my back in a bike accident.

It is good to hear that all that Tylenol didn't damage your liver. That means you got yourself a great liver.

Heat raises blood pressure. In my case I have spikes in my blood pressure that can get high enough to cause a stroke. The risk outweighs the rewards.

To make matters worse I have to have ankle reconstruction surgery on Wednesday so exercise isn't going to be at the top of my list. Having to walk on crutches is going to feel like razor blades inside my shoulders.

Right now I guess I will just continue with my regular dosage. I take less than the doctor directs me to anyway. As I have stated to others here, I am concerned with my coming off my pain meds causing a problem with my blood pressure problem. I do not use my medication for recreational use.

You advice is good for others here that this plan will work for. It is good to know and thanks for sharing.

Did you use Vicodin as a recreational drug always or did you have it prescribed for a medical reason at first, if you don't mind me asking?

I ask because I have a 17 year old son and I am worried that one of his friends may push him into trying to get into my pain meds. You know how teenagers are. We were all there at one time. I try to keep them locked up but sometimes I leave my Percocet out on my nitestand in case I need it at night and forget to lock them up when I go out to the store or physical therapy.

I don't have a sauna either, it was in the Detox Center. You must have capability to a gym near your home. I made it 2000 miles to a recovery. There are gyms, fitness centers, etc everywhere.

My liver is in good shape now. I was getting blood test weekly for progreess reports under Dr care. I know.....easier when living in a facility for a month. I don't think high blood pressure has anything to do with sweating. Take more breaks. Everyone in the facility had to do this although I don't know there blood pressure level. I could imagine that some were a lot worse than yours. My good friend whom I met in there could snort a bowl of cocaine per day, he had high blood pressure.

Do you have a worse addiction than I did?? I did see people go through much worse withdrawls than myself but they also took more, speedball, etc. I gave you my personal case and the results. I also seen people who had much worse problems than you (I'm presuming sice I was in a facility of about 200 people) and the stories were out of this world. I can give you cases where you would laugh and say "no way...they would be dead".

You can all say it was easy for me because of the treatment/facility I was in, under Dr care. If I knew of these few things, I probably could of saved 30k.

Hot baths don't do the trick except for a small relaxation....like a massage. Please try the sauna/steam room for a few hours for 2-3 days.

What can those of us that can't use a suana do? I have high blood pressure. I can't use a sauna. I guess I'm a**out.

I would also like to ask you about taking 20 Vicodin a day. Do you know if you have any serious liver problems from all of the Tylenol? I was taking (5) Vicodin a day after some recent surgery and my liver enzymes went up. I got lucky and they caught it on a blood test before another surgery.

I am bringing this up because maybe you should get a blood test to see how your liver is doing.

Thanks for those tips!  Like Steveo30 said...if I had a sauna I think it would help more.  I usually soak in the tub for like 20 or 30 minutes. Hot Hot water and the all the best of bath salts, bath beads, and special soaking formulas.  That gives me the illusion of escape and feeling good and yes, I do sweat. So, I guess what I am saying is...If you don't have a jacuzzi or sauna...try a hot bath with 2 cups of Epsom Salt dissolved, some kind of aroma or vapor ex: (Eucalyptus and Spearmint), cool washcloth for the face (chilled gel mask would work also), and maybe some candles and music.  Candles for the calming effect and warmth added to the room, and, music to keep your mind from racing.  Thanks again!!!
