Alprazolam Addiction

A few weeks ago I posted on here for the first time that I am addicted to alprazolam (Xanax).  In a about a week I will begin a rehab program at the Native Center, since I am Native.  They told me some of what to expect and because I have had other health problems, my treatment won't be as "intense" as some of the others.  However, they have counsellors and drs and combine Native and non-Native treatment.  I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about it.

I know I am not particularly well-liked but I'm still trying.

After one day at 3 1/2 Xanax, I feel so tired.  Glad the weaning or tapering is being done slowly.

hi. it's good you are using a systematic approach to coming off the xanax. i'm sure you know ct can be dangerous. i wish you the best and those feelings do bite, but they will get better in time. i didn't believe it until i went through it myself. take care,  gm

I went to my first "Xanax weaning" session and it seems like a good program.  It's a combination of Native and non-Native therapy - if that's the right word.  They wean or taper people off according to their needs so I'm going from four Xanax a day to 3 1/2 and stay on that dose for one or two weeks.  They're taking their time, which I like.

Wolfie, If you can get your hand on "The benzo Blues" It's a good start. "The secret" and "The Power of Now" are awesomw too.

You know I'm sending good thought and prayers with you wolf.. You can do this. you are going to a place that believes in spirituality and in ourselves. you again will see the beauty in a early morning and be alive to feel the crisp air and enjoy it.. loneliness and pain seem to lift like a dark cloud.. it takes work and determination but I believe you have all of this.. when we find our bottom and miss living then are we ready for the fight.. you have a lot of support.. anytime you need to talk you know where to find me.. sending positive thoughts with you wolf.. hugs lesa/letakos

The anti-Xanax weaning rehab begins tomorrow.

totallost - any books you can recommend would be greatly appreciated.

Wolf, you really need to get off them @#&*# benzos. I am tapering fast now and the more I taper off the best I feel.
I didn't know what happiness was like, I mean the pure joy coming from within. I had forgotten but believe you me, I am re-discovering it.
And it gets better every single day.
Please trust me and taper off, quit, It's only ruining your life and it kills emotions, all of them, the good one too. It makes your life dark, I was "in the hole" as I used to call it, only dark clouds around... Now it's sunshine everywhere!!! It is so worth the ride!

The prescription said one pill every six hours.  The dose was .5, the pink pills.  Sometimes I didn't take them at all and others I took too many.  Usually, I stuck with the recommended dose.

How many and how often were you taking the xanax? And what was the strength? Im just wondering

While in my active addiction.. I felt lonely even though my family was with me.. I also did not enjoy life.. I would watch reruns on tv for hours.. now the set is hardly on.. It is like waking up out of a coma as someone once put it.. everything is brighter and more attainable.. I also belong to the long arm club :) hugs wolf

I really appreciate your comments.  It looks like I've been so overwhelmed by that alprazolam itself that I miss the important things.

I'd never noticed that benzo people used names with lost or lone in it?  Interesting and I'm sure it means something.
