how long does it take to get off of ativan

I started ativan 7 months ago after a fall from taking klonopin for a few years. my Dr. then switched to ativan for my anxiety. Now I was told to get off of the ativan and all anxiety meds as I loose sodium. I'm happy about that because ativan does not help me as much. My dr. is trying to wean me off but am having a lot of shakiness and some anxiety with the weaning process . She said in 3 months I should be completely off.

With a longer half-life, klonopin is a bit easier to wean off of but since you're on ativan now I suppose its best to stay the course using your doctor's guidance.   Best of luck!

Absolutely. You are doing it the right way. Benzodiazepines are very difficult, especially Klonopin. Jeff

That sounds right.  Having your doc wean you off is EXACTLY what we tell everyone to do on here, so you are ahead of the game!  It IS a slow process, but it's well worth it.  Can you imagine how you would feel if you just stopped it without tapering?  Plus, it is SO dangerous and can kill you.

You are doing the right thing.  Listen to your doctor!!! : )
