how to cope with withdrawals from norco

.Well i am on my first day without norco, I have been on them for about 6 yrs and i am 26 it all started with my first baby when i had complications with my back and they only got worse..  so i have decided to go cold turkey on the norco because i know that if i tried to tapper that wasn't gonna happen.. i know my self and i for sure wouldn't be able to do that.. ok so the sweats, anxiousness, diarreah, yawning, creepy crawly, and many more have set in.. So i'm gonna go through with this because i know in the end it will be worth it..  I will do this for me because i know i deserve it..  But i can say the **** ***** ...   But anyways how long will this last? and also i have been on 12-15 norcos a day ...  any advice will help thanks phia .

OMG, i was at the pharmacy at walmart and waiting behind a guy at the window.  he was talking about all his scripts and i overheard hydrocodone 180.  my heart raced for a second on that one.  i knew what he was getting.  i looked at him and he was younger, like me.  he actually sat and waited for his drugs.  45 minute wait.  i jsut thought to myself, yes, he is an addict just like me.  and part of me wanted to chat him up and ask him for drugs.  i watched him get up and walk to another department.  not limping, didn;'t seem to be in pain so i assumed he was an addict.  i felt horrible for judging him.  i felt dumb.  it is always in the back of our minds.  that *****.

Day 5?  You are doing just great, and you are still working to booth? I also worked through my last withdrawals, but I can't remember much of what I did when I was there(he he).

I believe that the worst of it is almost over for you very very soon. I think my RLS went away for the most part after a week if I remember correctly. Someone said that bananas help with the RLS I believe?

Just hang in there a little longer, and you(and I) will be clean for Christmas.

hey phia-try highlands leg cramps (homeopathic) it has quinine in it.  My Rls was terrible and I was sleepless until I got that stuff.  I get super anxious about sleep and actually just slept last night properly for the first time and I'm at 2 weeks.  Listening to soft music really helped-and take the clock out of the room if you can.  Your body will give in and sleep when it has to.  Hang in there girl-you're doing great....Wishing you (and me) sweet dreams....Lu

I was using about the same amount as you the last time I quit, and it was like a mild flu for the first 4 or 5 days. It was all basically behind me after 9 days I remember. We should both be feeling and doing great by Christmas, God willing.

Funny, I know what you mean about watching people leave the pharmacy.  Not the part of holding up the place (lol) but I wondered what they were getting and if they were an addict like I was.  I mean everytime I go to the local CVS there are a TON of people waiting all the time for their prescriptions - in the store and in the drive-thru lane too.  Course there are OTHER drugs out there that people need that aren't narcotics (lol) - but I think that's just the addict mind talking.....

All I know is that it's so great to be able to go to the drugstore now and not even think about drugs... funny right?  But it used to stress me out at first if I had to run into that store to pick up something and I'd get anxious in there and couldn't get out of the store fast enough.  But it never crosses me mind anymore - ever.  And it will be like that for you one day too you'll see.  :)

Thanks guys so much at this point i will take any and all advice...  I'm now on day two and i still feel like **** and i still have all symptoms i actually got 4 hrs of sleep last night with the help of rls meds and nyquil it helped a little .. well i just hope that i am ready to go back to work tomorrow i cant afford to take any time off ..  With christmas and kids were sick all week last week.. But i am just gonna take it slow and if i have to go home early then so be it but i am gonna try and be stronger than this ****ing habit.. This truly has been by far the worse thing i have ever gone through encluding child birth cause we get (drugs) lol.. Today i drove by a pharmacy and i thought about sticking the place up.. i know that i would never do that but it was for sure in the back of my mind.. And i also saw people leaving the pharmacy and i thought about asking them if they had any pain meds .. Pathetic huh?? Gawd i cant get this crap off my mind.. Well that it for now i don't want to sound crazy lol..  i had to get some things off my chest..
Well thanks for listening guys ,, and look forward to talking with you all so very soon

The hardest part for me was the 3-4th days.  I hope this helps!
Coming here is a great start.  Everyone is awesome and so helpful.

I kept telling myself...YOU HAVE the FLU!  It will be over and I will feel so much better.  My brain seemed to get that and settled down a little.  It is hard, but doable!  The Thomas Recipe (bottom of the page under Health Pages will help.  I did not to the tranquilizers and had to cut back on the Ltryosine, but the rest really helped.  Imodium, Imodium, Imodium (liquid or pills if the liquid can't be found or you can't swallow it) will help.  I took double the dosage for a few days (personal choice) and it helped so much..even with the withdrawals in general and the opiate trots which sucked.

Hydrate and eat!  Even if it is just a little every hour or so.  You have to eat something to keep your energy up as much as possible.

If you have Restless legs..it is hit or miss what works.  Walking seemed to help me some.  Hot bath with epsom salts..a little.  I finally had to get my doctor to refill my restless legs meds (non addictive) to get some sleep.  If nothing works, your doctor might help.

One hour at a time is all anyone can ask.  After 2 weeks it gets a little better and I started to say, One day at a time!  Your brain will do all sorts of things to get you to take a pill.  I found if I was hungry..the cravings got worse.  I would try to eat a banana, a few grapes or a few crackers to get that under control.

Good for you.  I hope all goes well.  You have made a good start coming here....this site has helped me so much!!!  Keep posting!!!!!

Hi Phia -

I detoxed cold turkey from a 25/day Norco habit.  I would say the first two days are the worst, and then you start to slowly stabilize over the next 2-3 days, and then you start feeling much, much better each day.  No matter how bad you feel, I PROMISE YOU that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  It will get better and you will feel like your old self again.  You deserve this.

I've relapsed a few times so staying clean after you detox is the hardest part.  But detoxing is prob the scariest party without a doubt.

I would say that Xanax or any other benzos you can get your hands on without a doubt help the most - just PLEASE be careful and do NOT get addicted to benzos.  You'll be in a much, much worse place than you are now, trust me.  Beta Blockers like LuLu mentioned help also - I used Inderal (propranolol) and still do - it helps with any tightness in your heart/chest and other physical anxiety feelings, but it will not help with mental anxiety, only benzos will.  Take L-Theanine for stress, L-Tyrosine with B-6 for physical and mental energy, and def Potassium and Magnesium to help with the RLS.  Muscle relaxers also help a lot.  Also take Benadryl - I took 3 capsules 2-3 times a day.  Def more than you should take but if you just do it for 3 days you'll be ok.

Try not to worry about the lack of sleep.  I know it's difficult, but I found that if you just accept it you'll be more at peace and less stressed out.  Watch movies, play on your computer, whatever you have to do to keep your mind occupied.

You could also order Kratom online - it helps  A LOT.  Get it in pill form, not leaves.  You just take about 8-12 the first day and then decrease by 2 everyday until you're done.

Best of luck to you.  Keep your head up.  It's mind over matter and from what it sounds like, you absolutely have the willpower to get through this.

Please keep us updated on how you're doing.  We're all here for you.

it's great that you have decided to get off of these pills. If you can try to make your surroundings comfortable and clean.try not to worry because what you are worried about right now you will forget and be on to worrying about something else in a few days.Everything will take care of itself if you get clean and stay clean.Imodium really helps alot of the withdrawal symptoms.take ten mils of it but don't do this too often for obvious reasons.
you can do it.We are here for you.good luck

First off-good for you!  This is not easy and takes a certain kind of courage so be proud of yourself!  Check out the Thomas Recipe if you haven't already.  I am on day 11 of detoxing off a significant amount of Oxycontin and dialaudid and it really helped.  Also-if you have access to a doctor and can get a scrip for clonidine which is a blood pressure med commonly used to detox off opiates.  It cut my w/d symptoms by half.  This was the second time I've gone C/t and it has been so much better-still freaking awful but I've made it and every day gets easier.  HOT BATHS.  I lived in the bathtub for 5 days and still have atleast 2 a day with epsom salts.  Drink lots of fluids-potassium and magnesium are so important to take as well for the RLS.  It's gonna be rough but if you keep a positive attitude and are kind to yourself it will be easier.  And keep posting and let us know how you are doing...There is great support here and we've all been through what you are going through...Some of us more than once.  Sending you support...Lu
