Stay positive, keep your head up and don't focus on the setback, be proud of your line of thinking, in letting your sister hold your pills, and taking less than prescribed. What's important is that you get better. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You WILL get through this!

You have a good plan in place with your sister holding the pills.  Just focus on getting better now.

Oh wow, 11 days off Methadone!  Definitely don't start that up again...I would just recommend detoxing off the Vicodin.  There may be a part of your detox that is still influenced by the Methadone, but not nearly as much if you didn't have those 11 days under your belt!  That's fabulous!

Good for you for setting up a plan with your sister holding your meds.  Way to go!  Your train of thought about making it harder for yourself to access them is spot on!  You're setting up roadblocks to the pills.

Really...you're doing great.  Like I said, this may end up being a positive thing, as it will probably be MUCH easier to detox off the Vicodin versus the Methadone.

Keep doing what you're doing!

Hello - Just want to send a little support.  I have been reading through your thread & I agree with evolver - please don't beat yourself up over all of this.  You need to take care of your immediate health issues, i.e., the infections, and if you are in a lot of pain then take the meds as prescribed.  I think that Vicodin and Lortabs are both hydrocodone (they may be different strength, but I think from the same "class" of med).  Anyway, if you can just stay within the prescribed dose, take your antibiotics and get better, THEN you can worry about getting back on track.  I am amazed at your strength - 9 months you had been tapering?  That had to be very hard work, and shows how much you really want to do this.  I personally have never been on methadone, but I know from learning about it here that is hard to get off of.  At this point (if it were me), I'd try to just get through this, take all your antibiotics & heal up those infections.  Then you can taper down off the Lortabs - I'm thinking that as long as you stay within the dose prescribed it wont be nearly as bad as what you went through with the c/t from the methadone.  You have to control your pain and do it without feeling guilty or like you failed anything.  You are going to be fine, just be patient and take care of yourself.  Don't let those 9 months of hard, hard work go for nothing - you ARE going to beat this.  Just a little bump in the road - they happen; life happens.  You CAN do this and get back on track.  Take your prescribed meds and give yourself a little time to heal.  You can get back with it very soon.  Keep posting, there will always be support here.

Yes I'm completely off methadone its been 11 days and yes I have my sister holding them and she lives about 10min. Away from me so if I want one I have to go over and ask..I thought the harder I make it to get them maybe I wouldn't take as much..I'm actually taking less than perscribed they have it to take 1 every 4-6hrs as needed for pain..yesterday I had 3, the day before 2, I woke up this morning in excruciating pain and took 1..thank you for the advice!!!!

So, you're off the Methadone completely?

I think you will be FAR better off trying to taper off the Vicodin versus the Methadone...I wouldn't start the Methadone up if you've stopped taking it.  See, this may actually have a silver lining after all...as Methadone is historically much harder to detox off of than hydrocodone (which is what Vicodin is).

Are you taking the vicodin as prescribed?  Is someone holding the pills for you?  Just be very careful, amd ONLY take them when you really need them.  Try OTC pain meds also.  There will be times when OTC analgesics will keep you comfortable, and other times when you may need a vicodin.  It's tough to be honest with yourself to determine if you REALLY need the med at any given moment.

The antibiotics will be having you feeling better pretty quick, too, so the acute pain shouldn't last more than 2-3 days.  Keep that in mind.  Hope you feel better soon!!

Thank u for all the encouragement. . I tapered off 100mg over 9mths and at 5mg I got antsy and just stopped..3 days after quitting I wss in e.r for a very serious bladder infection. .was sent home then 2days ago I was in e.r again I have an inner, middle, and oitter ear infection. .went to doc. Yesterday to get my lab results and I have a parasite in me..that apparently I've had for a long time amd the methadone masked the pain and symptoms. .I'm on a lot of antibiotics right now and they switched me from vics to loratabs.. are they the same??? I'm trying to deal with the pain but it gets so bad I feel I have to take them...I'm just over w/ds and being sick and just plain not feeling good..do u think when I'm done with these I should just sweat it out or should I go back to methadone n taper off again..don't know anymore..thank you all for the uplifting words of encouragement. ..

Hey you!
Like the above posters said hang in there. You're going to be OK. The most important thing right now is to get rid of the infections, etc. I'm suffering physically but I'm even more sorry that you're beating yourself up. Don't sweat it! It just pulls you backwards. Stay on the prescribed dose of Vics. They're much shorter acting and will give you a little more time of the 'done. What was your jumping off dose & how long were you on Methadone?
You're doing great. You're here and that's big -- your effort and the nine days are huge. You'll do it again, never fear. Fear is the enemy -- love/clarity your weapon of choice. Hope this helps.

Vicodin is Hydrocodone, Hydrocodone is made from thebaine, thebaine is an alkaloid of the Papaver Somniferum plant (Poppy), so therefore Vicodins ARE opiates.
However, the most important issue is pain control. I have read that Methadone withdrawals can last 30+ days and up to a year to feel totally well again, versus about 5-7 days of acute withdrawal from short acting opiates such as Hydrocodone and Oxycodone, so draw your own conclusions as what to do .
Wishing you the best.

Really??? About vics??? I'm honestly not familiar with them so you could be correct..they never were my "pill" of choice so I never took the time to really knw what they are...its just frustrating I feel like every time I get a few steps ahead I get pushed back...aghhhh life i guess...lol...I knw when I'm healthy ill be able to fight my demons at full capacity rather than half...thank u for encouraging words..I have been having a hard time with this all night....

Thank u...Yesterday was a bad day for me..I had even told the doctor in the emergency room my history n that if at all possible I did not want pain pills and yet they still gave vics..I never had a problem with vics per say but that was before I was introduced to opiates I knw vics r not opiates but I knw they can b habit forming..I'm just worried that after infections are gone I won't want to stop because I knw it makes me feel better..sorry for any typos....

Do not be hard on your self..Pain is Pain...we have to do what has to be done..No one should suffer..But you know that u have been there before like me with the dones..SO just be careful...I look at it this way, if it gives me the buzz/high then I will not go there....We have experience with the dones and they over powered the others..So be that said if it kills the pain and makes u a bit tired..then they are working the right way...I often wonder what I would do if I needed something for pain..I do know that I would give them to someone, other then in this lil hand of mine...
You will be fine..
You still have them days off the beast...
