Jane, the dr put me on amitriptyline to get off of the ambien. I took it for about 2 weeks and was able to get off of it. Don't stay on the amitriptyline long because it has 2 meds in it. God Bless you

I just stopped Ambien 3 days ago.. After 3 years of taking it about 4 days a week. Now I read to slowly taper off..I don't know if I should start taking 1/2 of a pill or just continue on... I'm doing ok but have low grade fever and feel extremely tired and nervous... What should I do to get off this stuff????

Hi tooter! I'm just checking in to see how you are doing today. You sound better! I hope the Advil helps and I'm happy to see you got your walk in!

It might be time for you to start a new post as this one is getting long. Just go the the Post a question button! and start a new thread. You could title it something like Day (whatever) Hydrocodone withdrawal.

Take care, I will check on you again a bit later.

Day 6 it IS!!!!  YEAH you!  When we have been on pain meds for awhile our pain receptors are totally "wack"...and then we remove the opiates and for awhile, we experience increased sensitivity to pain, anxiety and depression.  It's our brains way of expelling the toxins and trying to reset.

For my pain, I have found that LIQUID ADVIL (ibuprofen) and Tylenol (acetaminophen) together help me.  I don't repeat the Tylenol with each dose of  Advil, but my pain is so great I have to a few times a day.
In the early days of getting off pain meds, our pain receptors are screaming for what they no longer have....so don't be alarmed if even the OTC Advil or Tylenol don't work really well.  They can take the "edge" off....but will work better the longer your pain receptors are free of opiates.

If you haven't tried hot baths with Epsom salts....you will be amazed at how much better one will make you feel.....and my favorite Epsom salt variety is the "Eucalyptus Spearmint"....ooh la la baby!!   :):)

Just do what you can and keep in mind the more active you are, the faster you heal, and the better you feel. I know it's hard and you really have to push yourself to do even the simplest things at first. As far as your foot pain goes, it will get better the more time you put between you and the opiates. It's very normal to have increased rebound pain during the first couple of weeks. And you count those days now and always! That's something to be very proud of.

You're not self centered. You got to do for you first. Know that you're worth it. Once you do for you, then you're available to do for others.

It's the foot and hip pain. That's what got me on this stuff to begin with. Thanks for the heads up.

I take Advil or Motrin 600mg and it actually works great for me!  For headaches I take Excedrin Migraine....but I'm seldom in any pain. I'm very fortunate...

The weakness might be related to lack of food or enough fluid. Dehydration will cause that along with a big, old headache. It sounds like you're doing better in that department now, though.

Get some Ensure to sip on...it has everything you need. Walgreens sells a product for RLS called Hyland's Restful Legs and it works well for a lot of folks.  Do you have Epsom salts in the house?  Soaking with that in a hot bath is great for RLS and aches and pains...

You're doing great...good for you!  xo

What kind of pain? For me, nothing works better for a headache like Advil. I also take a prescription Anti-Inflammatory. If you are having a headache because of the caffein withdrawal (Dr. Pepper), honestly at this point I would just drink one! One thing at a time. Also, soak in the tub with Epsom Salts. That, can help tremendously? Good luck, and I'm sorry you are hurting!

Ya know, for me, I always felt better in the evening/night. I don't know why that was. Are you taking Magnesium and Potassium for the RLS? Also, bananas are great. One step at a time... Think positive, tomorrow will be better.

You may be right, I haven't had a Dr.Pepper since yesterday. My RLS is back also. maybe I'll get a spurt of energy alter today. That's when it has been happening.so far. I've done my walks outside several times today. Just be glad when this day is over!!!  .

Hi Tooter! I'm wondering if the headache may be due to stopping the Dr. Pepper? It's got caffein, right? Caffein withdrawals can cause nasty headaches. Hang in there, you are doing so great,

Listen to Vicki about the hydration stuff. She is a nurse. Take care.

Vicki, this is day 5 and I got some Gatorade  yesterday and have drank almost 32 oz. I started about 6:00pm. I take a few bites a day  until today and then ate a bowl of chile. My legs will barely hold me up and I have a headache. I also quit the Dr.Pepper. I'm trying to drink a lot of Gatorade and take my Supper D Complex with vitamin c. Hoping to feel better SOON. Got up feeling a lot better then it went to pot
