tramadol addiction

My wife is going thru hell trying to kick this crap, she was put on tramadol for arthritis in her hands, she took herself off and ended up in the  emergency room,$4,000 later, the doctor put her back on and now we are trying to wean her off,she was abusing it,prescription was for 8- 50mg.per day,I found out she taking double,I now moniter the giving of pills, she took her first dose of kratom this morning, sure hope this helps with the withdrawals. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, after reading all the other posts,I was wondering if any lawsuits have been filed, from what I understand tramadol is suppose to be non-addictive ,doctors really have to wise up on this drug, its lethal!

Yes, it certainly can be lethal. At the dosage your wife was taking, she could have died of a seizure--Ultram is notorious for that. She must NEVER take that much again. I tapered off it myself, from 18/day to 8, and then down to four over the past two months. I'm now at four and will probably stay on it at that dosage.
She will probably be sad, out of sorts, and anxious while she is coming off, as tramadol has an antidepressant effect, and her body will miss that effect. Hang in there! If she'd like to join the forum chat, she would be very welcome. I wish both of you all the best!

I just quit tramadol cold turkey from about 8 pills a day, I am on day 22 and still not 100% I feel so so bad for her struggles in the future. This drug is definitely poisen in my opinion. Yes, it helsp with pain but not enough so people being told by Dr's that its harmless would probably take more, I was basically given a choice I could quit or go for more, not with the issues I already saw my life evolving in. Tell her to take lots of magnesuim salt baths, the RLS is horrible or should I say in my case  RBS, lol. I am still tired but I noticed it being everyother day now. Its pain, chills, fever, HBP, horrible depression, anger, etc. I did not sleep for 3 weeks and still dont sleep all night. I am so sorry, if you or she needds to talk I am around.

I am not sure about lawsuits yet, but there are several groups trying to get this classified as a Class 2 Scheduled Narcotic.  The lobbyists and politicians that are lining their pockets by the maker of this drug are sitting on their hands and not doing a dam* thing about it.  It is ridiculous.  Why do people have to suffer and die from certain drugs before the lawsuits start.  Just like that diet drug Phen Phen.   Look at all the damage it did.

good luck to you and her.  Go to the medical pages of this forum and there is a great article by a doctor that goes into the tramadol issue.

Tramadol is a opiate a very strong drug and the sides are sometimes unbearable.  Maybe you need to talk to her Dr again.
