liver problems

Hubby has been complaining about pain & acid reflux in the upper part of his stomach, right at the top of his ribs. He has suffered from acid reflux for years & years but said that this is the worst it has ever been. I wondered if it could be the extended use vicodin and made a point of telling him what is considered the lethal amount of acetaminophen and that it equals out to anything over 5 of his meds but I would think that extended use of even a lower dose could be dangerous. Since he wont admit to me that he is taking more than just 2 a day I thought I might be able to scare him into wanting to talk to me about it or try to quit.
My question is IF he is only at about 6 a day of the 7.5 vicodin but combined with his age (50) or maybe another reason could he be doing serious damage to his liver while some other posters on here have been taking more and/or for longer?

yes,acid reflux can be a major problem while taking opiates.they basically shock your system,slows it down.thats why we get constipated.i have a hiatel hernia(forgive my spelling)I never had this problem until i was introduced to opiates as a result of a 25ft.fall.as far as his liver is concerned a simple check up and some blood tests having done you will find the answers to your questions best of luck   steveo

As lesa says he needs to see the doctor  .It could be several different things they have simple blood tests to check his liver .It might be a good idea to get it tested

If your husband thinks he has liver pain he should go to the Dr. although when the liver does flare with pain the abdomen is extended with nausea and burping.. I have not noticed so much of a acid reflex.. He should still be checked out as ulcers and the like can be very painful.. also the gull bladder can cause severe pain in this region....I wish you well... lesa
