Again, do not stop taking either of these drugs CT. Both must be tapered.
I have been taking paxil now for about a year and it is a wonderful thing for me. i am a much happier person. you just need to give it time and it will work it took me about a month or longer to feel any different. you also have to realize it is something you will probably take for the rest of your life.
I took Paxil for a while and I must say that I was TOTALLY lethargic. It was not a good thing for me at all. It really varies with every person. Just know that when you are ready to stop your antidepressant, you will have to take it slow. You cant stop them at once. Your body needs time to get back to normal. I am currently taking Effexor and I think it is working.
I have heard that Paxil works miracle for some pp. Just give it time to work.
Take care and good luck!
have you tried 5htp in lieu of the ssris? it doesnt help everyone, and is probably indicated for more mild types of depression- but it has helped a lot of folks and is available at most drug stores over the counter and places like walmart- it isnt terribly expensive- and may be worth a try-
good luck!!
I tried alot of different anti depressants for anxiety attacks/panic and it made it worse. I look the three up and there was a high percentage of people who experienced anxiety from them. I almost went out of my mind. So I take Kolonapin .50 mg as needed, which means only when I have an attack.
It is entirely possible to develop dependency on therapeutic doses of benzodiazapines (like lorzapam) in very short periods of time. The doctor will probably tell you this is not true. He would be wrong and relying on outdated information. It is a very indvidual thing. Withdrawl symptoms from benzos are heightened anxiety which of course would make your panic attacks much worse. These drugs are not even routinely prescribed for panic attacks any more because of this rebound effect. It is not a good idea to stop taking them all at once. It would be much easier on you to taper, preferably from a longer acting benzo like valium. Good luck with your doctor on that one too. Something else the American medical community has failed to integrate into their treatment programs. Seizures are a withdrawl risk from benzos but at the low dose and short time you've been on it, I wouldn't worry too much.
I don't know anything about Paxil. I became addicted to a benzo from taking it for anxiety and I don't take anything now. As far as I'm concerned, nothing is safe and nothing is nonaddictive. To me, nonaddictive means I can stop taking it immediately and have no withdrawl like aspirin. Is that true of Paxil?
I have had panic attacks and I sympathize but there is also behavorial therapy that is effective. Just takes time and work.
to pggasman:
I know what you are going through with the panic attacks, but give the anxiety meds time to work... they usually take 2-3 weeks to start having any effects on your body chemistry. Unless you have a history of seizures, I wouldn't worry about them. SSRI medicines have a VERY LOW incidence rate of causing seizures. As I'm sure you are already aware, the FEAR of having a panic attack is one of the primary causes of getting them in the first place! Keep coming back here, and I'm sure you'll find the support you are looking for from plenty of good people..
Good luck -- and don't worry!
