Hi,
Yes, I've also heard people's teeth are not the same while on meth and have also read a lot of posts on here of people complaining of the meth ruining their teeth as well. But - not sure as to why. Like Bkitty says, maybe do some googling and read up on it, or search through the posts on here. And of course the doctor is going to tell you it's not due to the meth - they are all in it for the money and they hate to lose their clients. Sorry this is happening to you!
I HAVE BEEN ON METHADONE 7 YEARS. (im on 210mg, not that it matters) When i started, i had ALL my teeth and they were 100% PERFECT!!, I MEAN PERFECT!! NEVER A CAVITY!! NOW? 7 years later, i have 3 1/2 teeth, and they are rotting out. i WAS VERY pretty. VERY pretty. now, im very ugly. i have some advice that i really think will help, buy a small travel size bottle of mouthwash, and also one large size. take the travel size bottle with you to the clinic EVERY DAY and after you dose, RINSE THAT MEDICINE OFF YOUR TEETH!! and keep your little travel size bottle of mouthwash and refill it every day from the large one, and be SURE to remember to take it with you when u go to the clinic so, you can get the medicine off your teeth A.S,A,P.!!!
thank you all for replying everyone is very kind and understanding here and i think i will stick around and read some more and maybe someday i can help some too, thanks everyone
thanks for your reply ,i do and always have taken care of my chops and the dry mouth all makes sence but i do think the meth is doing a bit more than just dry mouth, but again it saved me from total distruction and for that i guess it is worth a few g`s at the dentist thank you,jim
Hi, I agree with hellc@mst. U have to make sure u have really good oral hygiene while on methadone. I've been on methadone for over 7 yrs and my teeth r just fine. I also brush and floss 3 times a day everyday.
Your doctor is right. Methadone does not rot peoples teeth. As someone above already mentioned..... "it will give you a dry mouth. This can make your teeth more prone to the production of plaque, which is a major cause of gum disease and tooth decay. To protect your teeth, follow the dental routine recommended for everyone: brush and floss every day, rinse your mouth with mouthwash, go to the dentist at least twice a year, and cut sugar from your diet. Drinking plenty of water can also help to relieve dry mouth"

I spent nearly 12 years on methadone and still have a mouthful of healthy gums and teeth.
Ok,,one of the side effects that methadone causes is dry mouth,,so you dont have that saliva to coat and protect your teeth,,but with good dental hygeine this can be easily fixed. Hope that helps some~Bkitty ( I just read that)
I just googled methadone and tooth decay and there are a lot of reports that is does cause chopper problems. ~Bkitty
Hi and welcome,,Im not too familiar with methadone but I do remember reading that it can speed up tooth decay,,I wish I can remember where I heard that. I look around on the internet,,I do know in general opiates take so much vitamins and minerals from your body as they are metabolized. Can you speak to a dentist?? Hope I can find something to help you and the choppers :))~Bkitty
