Hi there jennie, I am also on methadone and have been constipated, tried several things but the very best thing and something that will not hurt you is Milk of Magnesia. Your body will use up the magnesium and it is even safe to take this daily. For me it works like a charm , every time! I take 4 tbsps at a time and I find I only need it about once a week as it keeps you going for a couple days at a time. Good luck!

There is a product called Swiss Kriss it's around $10.00 but it works wonders for opiate and methadone users. You can only find it at Walgreens, However i'm sure you would be able to find it on the net. You take 1-2 tablets 2 times a day with a full glass of water and your problems will be gone. 120 tablets come in each bottle and the active ingredient is Sennosides USP 8.5mg, It's a herbal laxative.

jenniewag820 methadone is just as bad as dope, painkillers, ect... it will make you constipated & can destroy the way your body functions entirely. I been there. what type of laxatives are you taking? my suggestion, based on my experiance is to focus on your diet. that is where you need to start your research. Like I can tell ya you should cut any chocolate completely cause that alone can bind you up pretty good. the biggest problem is going to be the opiats. I would suggest you move to a lesser evil when you gather the strength.maybye suboxone but dont stay on that for too long either. Any prolonged opiate use will cause you similar problems. my 11 years left me with the testosterone level of an 80 yo man & im only 37. in turn I had to also take thyroid hormone which may also relate to your problems with losing weight. I know its a scary thought & you should do it when you & only when you feel up to it. I quit because I made my self see the true hate I had for the drugs. There is always another way to cope. Sorry if I preached too much & I hope this helped. btw It took me 3 years & almost cost me my marrige to figure out that the meds were my whole problem. Good luck.

Sounds like you have gotten dependant on laxatives.  I would sit down with your doctor and talk to him/her about this.  What are your plans with the methadone?
