ive been on methadone for about 2 years and have been tappering off of it. Just recentley ive gottton down to 10 mg. Thats when the hell begin. I used to be addicted to every pain pill out there from loris to oxys.  When i stopped taking pain pills  the withdtawls were not as bad as when i started coming off methadone. its BAD!!!!!!! if i knew what i know now about methadone id never started taking it. but ive been doing research about subutex and suboxone and it sounds like something i should do. Is there ne1 out there who has been in this situatuion? or ne reccomendations? or is there another medicine i dont know about that will get me off of this methadone?  plz let me know. desperate!!!

I detoxed off 10mg of methadone, inpatient cold turkey after 25 years on 80 to 60 mg and it was hell on earth. I thought tapering to 10mg I'd be good. But nope! I didn't sleep for 12 days straight from day 1 of detox. Finally 2.5 months into rehab the staff thought to give me Doxepin and I was able to sleep for 7 hours. But I recommend ideally DO NOT touch methadone. It is the Devil.

In 2012 I detoxed off 10mg of methadone, inpatient cold turkey after 25 years on 80 to 60 mg and it was literally HELL ON EARTH. I thought tapering myself down to 10mg I'd be golden but NOPE! I didn't sleep for 12 days straight from day 2 of detox. Finally 2 months into rehab some staff member thought to give me Doxepin as my sober sleep med and I was able to sleep for a whole 7 hours. Joy! But ideally I recommend NOT touching methadone, it is the Devil. If you're currently on a methadone program, I recommend to start tapering asap and go to inpatient to get medically tapered off. Wait until you are UNDER 5mg before going inpatient and do NOT go to Florida. And the only reason I recommend inpatient for "jumping off the cliff" (going from crumbs to nothing)  is ONE: it can be severely debilitating, and TWO: your blood pressure can go very, very high detoxing off methadone. Mine was 219/130 at one point in Florida . Please listen to me: just DON'T get on methadone *maintenance* in the first place. I am not kidding it is a real, HUGE problem to come off of. I am currently awaiting to go inpatient to taper off 2 mg of suboxone. I have heard it is less severe than methadone but we all know opinions are just opinions. Just praying and hoping not to relive 2012 again.  ~Deb

my husband detoxed at 20ml. b4 that he tapered at 2ml every couple weeks took months.he was also taking lots of xanax so he had 2 of the worst w/d.  he went to a detox on feb.23th they gave him the suboxone for 5 days.he is now in a christian rehab. i can tell you it isnt easy, for three weeks he didnt eat, lost 20 lbs, throw up,runs, only  sleeps for 2 or 3 hours a night, has the shakes,is sneezing like crazy. remember the detox is uncomfortable but your body has to cleanse itself. it certainly took longer than 3 weeks to get addicted so yea your body needs time to recover. take one day at a time my husband is one month today with no meth or xanax. PRAISE GOD. i wish you the best, keep on posting.prayers are going up for you

I really wish I got your message b4 I went to the clinic. I went to 15 then 20mg. I can't say this isnt hard. I explained to my nurse, and she convinced to start coming down 2mgs from 20. The last thing I want to do is stay on methadone longer. But I also want to come down the right way. I was coming down 5 mgs every week. I feel like when I was @ 20 last time I shouldve started coming down 2 mgs then. I don't know I'm confused, frustrated, and I just want my life back. Inwish there was something I could do that would get me off of this NOW. Thank you for ur feedback. It was very helpful

HI and welcome to the forum....well your doing great if you got your dose of methadone down to 10ml....your almost thew ...I know exactly what your saing about the last 10ml being the most difficult it is...but after detoxing myself off 150ml habit just know the end is near..I took it all the way down to 1 ml b/4 jumping but dont recommend that because tapering below 5 ml is miserable and my final withdrawal was no worst then tapering below 5ml so just jump off at 5 ml and save yourself some misery ...as for going on sub
everything I have read about sub tells me its just as hard to come off off ...and there probably going to start you out on a higher dose then necessary so you wind up back tracking ...eventually you will have to taper off the sub and God only knows how long and hard that will be...If I where you I would just stick with the methadone ...your so close to being done with it you can taste it's better to work with the evil you know rather then opening a whole new can of worms with sub that you know nothing about...just go 1ml drops per week till your done if you jump at 5 your a little more then a month away from your freedom with the sub you will be on it for a lot longer then that...good luck on whatever you decide and God bless...Gnarly

Thank you for ur feedback I appreciate it. Let your neice  know it easier 2 get off of the suboxone then methadone. Methadone w/d is just like a heroin addict coming off of heroin. If she wants off of it there r plenty of vitamin cocktails to help with the detoxx. I personally know about that. Thanks again

my neice is addicted to methadone.  She takes it worse than I took the lortabs.  She says she is on suboxone now, but she still takes other stuff.  I'm not really sure how hard the suboxone is to get off, but she said the same thing you said about the methadone.
