HI Jake it took me a solid 7 days to get past the physical withdrawal and then there were some lingering symptoms although not sever ....but noticeable for around 2 weeks..try and prepare yourself for the physiological part after wards the energy crash can really get to you methadone takes a wile  to get over but you will get over it just be pachent you will notice improvements at 30days 60 then at 90days things really started to turn around for me...you need  to hook up with some sort of aftercare..the side effects of methadone are long lasting and aftercare weather it be n/a a/a or a conslor will help put you life back togeather and give you the tools and skills required to lead a successful clean lifestyle
keep posting here for support...you can do this...its just going to take some perseverance ...good luck and God bless.......Gnarly

The first time I came off methadone I was taking about 5mgs and I didnt really have that bad of a time. I think the main reason was that I was so naive to my situation and wasnt expecting bad w/d's, that I didnt really experience anything too bad, except for cravings. Unfortunately it took me a long time to learn my lesson I went back to methadone and eventually came off varying doses from 40mgs-140mgs. It seemed like the last physical symptoms to leave with most opiate w/d's are the hot/cold spells, but I always seemed to get over things in about a month. Now the last time when I was at 140mgs I tapered down to 30 and over to suboxone, which eventually worked itself out. So the highest amount that I went c/t from was 40mgs and it took about a month for things to return to normal. So hang in there, hopefully things will start to get better here soon. Take Care.

how long have you been on meth?i was taking 30 mg's a day of meth for about 1 year and also doing benzos.i put myself in detox followed by a 28 day program which i ended up leaving after 8 days,i was in withdrawal for 3 months after that and eventually relapsed.there's not alot of good news when it comes to methadone, time heals along with some good vitamins.read the thomas recipe at the bottom right of this page, also try not to seclude yourself to much and try and take a walk every day,it helps, seclusion is what i believe was the main culprit in my relapse along with no aftercare which is so important.good luck   steveo

the good news is that you never have to go through this again!!!!!!!
i was on such a large amount, i do not know what its like to detox off 5 to 10 mg
i have a journal on wd symptoms, its a medical journal i cut and pasted, it may help you, atleast prepare you, in general methadone detox, even for people who jump at 10 mgs last 3 to 6 weeks, and then deal with post acute with drawl, like irritablity, depression, cravings, that sort of thing,
