The approach for quitting Xanax is different than for an opiate.

Benzos should be tapered. You don't take a lot everyday so you won't need to taper much. For you, I don't think seizure is a big concern but it's a concern none the less. There's also an increase in anxiety with quitting.

We aren't allowed to give taper plans on the forum. So if you just drop a small amount of the Xanax, wait for a period of time, and drop a little more...you should do well. I know that's vague but it's the best I can do being that you don't want to ask your doctor.

Good luck!

Every night I would  take .5 or 1.mg but not throughout the day.... do you think I will be ok to stop. I don't want to go to doc because she is one of those docs that will say oh you can just quit don't worry that's what she said about hydros... that I could quit no prob unless I was taking like 20 a day.Wich I wasn't but at 6 to 8 I had to taper.I'm not saying she is not a good doc because she its just she is too laid back about this..

The big question is, how often were you taking them?  Every day?  Twice a day, or just here and there, "as needed"?  If as needed, you shouldn't have any problem coming off them without a taper.  If you were taking them regularly, you still may be okay, it's hard to tell.  Typically, a "short term" course of treatment, where there is little to no worry of dependency is about 3 months.  Everyone is different, and 1 mg is actually on the higher end of average", dose wise, so tapering may not be a bad idea, even if to just be cautious.

Your best bet is to talk to your doctor to determine the best course of action.
