on day 8 of methadone withdrawals, when does it end?

I've been taking methadone for 2 years (10-30mgs a day) and I'm on day 8 of my withdrawals. This was not by choice, I am vacationing and ran out but I figured since I made it this far I might as well go all the way. It is very hard because I have 3 kids and were supposed to be going to disneyland. We've already done 2 days and supposed to do another 3, but I don't think I can do it because of my lack of energy. So my main questions are when will I get my energy back and until then what can I do to get energy? I've heard st. Johns wort but does it really work? I don't really have any other withdrawal symptoms besides not being able to sleep and of course sneezing and yawning. Or is my lack of energy all in my head?

Congrats on day 277. Wow, am I jealous, he,he,! I know I'll get there too and can't wait to post that! I too am in the process of detoxing and after reading your response, had a couple questions. When you say to get a liquid B-complex vitamin, does getting B6 and B12 from a multi-vitamin and also from protein shakes count? I think I know exactly which Whey Protein shake you're talking about, but I bought the Muscle Building shake instead. It has 33 grams of protein per serving and says on the bottle,"Scientifically shown to increase protein synthesis by 68%", but, man does that stuff clog me up. Big time! You? If so, do you take something with it. I use only 1 scoop right now because 2 scoops is like cement in me. Even w/the Miralax 2x's/day. I do use milk instead of water and have one of those milk shake machines to mix it with. I wonder if the milk,(low fat), has anything to do w/it. Do you just use cold water like recomended? Do you happen to know if whey protein is easier to digest, cause maybe I can mix, half-and-half of the whey and what I got. I was just wondering, is yours made from a company called "Six Star Muscle"? I apologise if I took over this post. All drinks,(coffee only) are on me.
To pinkr, first, I feel for you trying to give your family a good vacation and you are feeling sick. That is the worst. They say the power of prayer actually works, so, let's all of us pray tonight for the rest of her vacation to go as smoothly as possible.
Yes, gnarly_1 is totally correct. Protein builds receptors and rebuilds neurotransmitters in the brain. The more receptors, the more oxygen molecules(sp) your brain can grab and hold onto. The more oxygen in the brain, the faster the recovery. But don't forget, it's not magic, you have a long way to go, but you CAN do it. Think of the person who's heart stops for a few minutes. The longer it doesn't beat, the more brain cells die from lack of oxygen, and you know what can happen to someone w/out oxygen to the brain.
A question for all: are we allowed to mention a drs' name on this site because he wrote an article over 5 years ago, and explains in laymans terms what is going on inside of us right now, what to expect and how to fix it. He compares a house that got damaged in a storm to our bodies being damaged by drugs, poor eating, and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Then he explains how to fix the "house", step by step. It's very easy to understand and makes perfect sense.
Finally, even tho you don't want to hear this right now, but what you are doing is the BEST thing you could do. Exercise. It get's those endorphins poppin' which in turn gives you energy. Walking around Disney Land w/three kids will make you tired coming off methadone or not, lol. As far as I know, St. Johns Wart is a OTC sedative. My dr. recomended it to me for anxiety. I can't imagine it giving you energy, but who knows. Call your PC and ask, and good luck.

Gnarly is the resident methadone withdrawal expert here, so I would follow his advice closely.  I am on Day 4 of WDs (I jumped from 5 mg) and it is definitely not a fun ride, but a ride that I intend to complete.  I empathize with you on having your kids on vacation, I have not been that great of a father as of late, but I try and just work through it and sometimes it helps to get my mind off the WDs.

The vitamin/amino acid therapy has really helped to keep the WDs bearable at least, and the hot baths, can not stress that enough.  The long outlook for recovery is depressing, but like they said, everyone is different and I am hoping that my 2-a-day exercise regimen will help me metabolize this crap out of my body sooner, if not, then I will do my time

Just the possibility of being clean is a beautiful thought right now, even if I can feel it.  Hang in there and godspeed to you.

HI .....methadone is a  long hard withdrawal ...I remember the energy crash ...it is debilitating
I wish I could tell you it is going to be over soon but the post withdrawals from methadone are as bad as the withdrawals for most...it took me 2 weeks to get past most of the physical stuff ...then another 2 weeks just not to be sick...the following 30 days I just felt like I wasent making fast enough progress ...it was right around 90 days that It finely started to turn around..my sleep returned the anxiety started to let up and slowly I regained my energy
today im 277 days into it and life has became a beautiful place again...there are a few things you can do that help the energy thing out a bit for 1 pick up some liquid B-complex
if you take it in the morning it helps the afternoon energy crash...also I still drink whey protein shakes...you can pick both up at walmat the b/complex is 6 bucks and the whey protein is 15 bucks for a 2lb can..it is loaded with vitamins and amino acids as well as the protein all of witch the brain needs to  heal...try not to get discouraged by the time frame
you do get better slowly and every withdrawal is different ...but what I have given you here is pritty much what most of us go threw to get off the stuff...just know in the end it is so so worth it...good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

okay methadone is the worst thing you can be on period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You have been on it for so long know your withdrawl can go up to 3-6 months it is not safe to just stop even in the fact you are taking a low dose . And you could find a doc in la to get you on soboxon if you tell them your story because soboxon does not get you high they will give you that before they give you methadone. you have gone this long with out the methadone you should really try to stop do you know the long term side affects of methadone? trust me if you knew you would not want to take it. For know try thoses five energy drink you buy at 7/11 they help just try not to do anything you are on a low dose you could stop good luck and god bless
