opiate addiction does tramadol help taper

I have been addicted to opiates for 6 years. I am 23 now and about a year ago I went into rehab and was put on suboxone and have been seeing a Suboxone Dr. ever since. About 3 months after rehab I started to take the opiates again and have been switching back and forth ever since. I just moved to West Virgina so now I don't have a DR. or insurance and I have tapered myself down and today is the first day after I have ran out of my script. I don't feel nearly as bad as I did coming straight off of hydrocodone's and oxycodone in the past but I still feel pretty bad with hot and cold, chills, body aches. I have some tramadol and have been thinking about using some of that to help me get off of this. When I was in rehab my counselor told me that tramadol was non narcotic and not addictive. Does anyone know anything about that? If it is just going to set me back by taking it I would just rather do without. I am in a lot of pain and that was the only reason that I was considering it in the first place but I want no set backs and am very thankful that the suboxone has kept me from withdrawling as bad as it could have been. But I know I need to get off of that as well which since I dont have any left isn't an issue I just wonder if taking the tramadol will set me back. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Please dont take the tramadol! It is the worst stuff to get off.  I have gone cold turkey 12 days ago and still am suffering the worst withdrawals.  After being told it is non addictive, trying to go off it is hell.  if you can try and get through without it. Take care, a fellow sufferer.

I've tried to taper with tramadol. Didn't work for me. Was awful. Just awful. Stay away from tramadol. It might be in narco family it's not like most pain meds.  From my experience I would say stay away from tram.  No short cuts with this

HI and welcome to the forum....how much sub are you coming off of ??...sub has a long 1/2 life and it can take a few days to really start to feel the withdrawals from it...if you jumped off a low dose its doable...we have had members come off crazy amounts of it also but its not pritty....right now the best thing you can do is try a good hot soak in the tub...it will releave a lot of the symptoms...stay away from the tramadol it wont really help your withdrawals if your in pain take some advill or tylonal or other otc pain med...hang in there I hope you dont read this till tomorrow morning but I got a feeling your going to be up all night ...try not to get discouraged...and do the best you can to keep your attitude positive wile your going threw this good luck and God bless....Gnarly

Thank you for your opinions. I haven't taken anything and it keeps getting worse but I know that I don't want to start back at square one. Coming off of the Suboxone is not as bad as it was when I came off of the hydrocodone. I do have clonodine and sleep meds left that I was given when I was in rehab so hopefully those will help me get through some of this. Thank you guys for the luck.

tramadol used to be a non-narcatic but now they are compared to synthetic oxys, and i was told by a dr that the withdrawl from tramadol is worse than any other opiate,it causes seizures and even death from withdrawls i made that mistake i hadnt taken anything in a week but then my back started hurting and i to thought tramadol were non narcotic until i took them for like 4days and the withdrawls were horrible, pretty much set me back into taking opiates again after i had already went through the wds and was pretty much over the hard part,i would suggest trying to just not take anything,or go to the er and try to get clonodine i hear that helps alot with some of the syptoms of wds and is none addictive...........goodluck!!!!

PLEASE don't take the tramadol. It is a huge mistake to believe it is non addictive and the withdrawals are so much worse than any I have experienced. Emily's post, Tramadol, Ultram recovery room is a great place to convince yourself that this is a drug you want to avoid at any costs. Good luck.Marty

There are people on here that have been addicted to Tramadol, it is an addictive pain pill. I would advise of not taking it but that is my personal opinion. Maybe you could call your old doctor for some advice as to what to do. Your making the right step getting off those pills. The withdrawls are rough but they do go away and you will feel so much better!! I wish you the best and good luck!!!
