opiates + benzo = what

Hubby & I had a long talk the other night. I pointed out how his behavior & attitude had changed so much in the last 6-8 months, mostly how he just has no interaction with me & the kids anymore and how he just seems to have checked out on us. I also mentioned how I think he might be taking more pills than he says and of course he had the old explanation ready for that. So I stuck with just pointing out how he is acting. During the discussion I mentioned that I was so worried and depressed about this that I had talked to our doctor and been prescribed anti anxiety meds. He is now saying that when he goes for his next appt that he is going to talk to his dr because he thinks he must be suffering from depression. He even apologized for not truly understanding what I was going thru when I suffered from depression (mild up to recently and never any meds till then and none now only calms forte).

My question is, how dangerous is it for him to take vicodin + soma + benzo? I took what I had left of my tranxene to my mothers house because I was afraid to he would take mine before he talked to his dr.

YES BENZO'S ARE POISON. I AGREE TOTALLY, AND YES SNOWFLAKE IS RIGHT HE SHOULD NOT BE MIXING THESE DRUG'S TOGETHER , THEY CAN CAUSE RESPIRTORY FAILURE. JUST TRY ONCE AGAIN TO SET HIM DOWN AND TALK TO HIM AGAIN PLEASE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHAT HE IS DOING,  SHOT'S FOR HIS PAIN IS A VERY GOOD ALTERNATIVE.  GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS  JENNIFER  :)

sciatic nerve can be very painful. but soma is not the answer nor is the vicodin.. I had found cortisone shots in my back way more beneficial. He is on a slippery slope with pills... Snowflake was right about the soma and depression.. Before he substitutes the soma with a antidepressant he should get some therapy too work out if he is really depressed.. He will not find the answers in more pills.. Constant pain can cause depression also.. I would suggest he talk to his Dr. about alternative pain relief.. He would feel a lot better.  I'm very sorry you and your family are going through this.. Maybe read him post of other addicts who struggle with addiction and the impact on them and their loved ones. I pray hubby comes to his senses and realizes you play with fire you can burn your house down.... lesa

He isnt on the benzo's yet and maybe he wont be. His behavior is different as in moody or just disconnected from us. I believe that he may be abusing his pain meds and when I try to talk to him about it he denies it. I have caught him in a few lies about how many I think he is taking but he just talks in circles until I begin to question myself as to whether I am right. That was why I chose to address his behavior changes instead of what I think his actions are. He was prescribed 7.5 vicodin and the soma by his dr for damage to his sciatic nerve about a year & half ago. Now he says he wants to talk to his dr about getting something for his nerves or this depression he is in. I am not totally sure that he wants to actually get these meds or if he is just using the whole 'I'm depressed' excuse to keep me from connecting the change in his attitude to his use of the vicodin.

WELL FOR STARTERS WHY IS HE ON OPIATES AND BENZO'S ? THEY ARE VERY ADDICTIVE. ARE THEY DR PRESCRIBED? I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY NARCOTIC'S? HOW HAS HIS BEHAVIOR CHANGED? IS HE JUST PLAIN OUT MEAN OR JUST VERY MOODY? BENZO'S AND OPIATES HELP TO CALM YOU DOWN. HOW MUCH DOES HE TAKE?  I WAS GIVEN BENZO'S FOR ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS. IVE BEEN ON THEM FOR 6 YRS BUT FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN TAPERING TO GET OFF OF THE BENZO'S. BENZO'S ARE VERY HARD TO COME OFF OF. DEPENDING HOW LONG HES BEEN ON THEM IF HE RUNS OUT OF BENZO'S IT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS, CAN CAUSE SEIZURE'S THAT CAN BE FATAL. WHAT KIND OF BENZO DOES HE TAKE? WRITE BACK SOON
