Oxy use caused weight gain for me.  I was taking 80mg 3X/day as prescribed and went from 5'11" and 170 to 200lbs.  I had NEVER been able to gain weight in the past but it gave me a huge appetite for sweets.  The weird thing was that i didnt't know I had gained the weight untill I saw myself in a picture.  Now I'm off it and back to 170lbs.  I was very athletic until my sports injury and resulting surgeries.  Pre-accident, I actually took weight gainers to jump from 145 to 170 while I was weight lifting, wakeboarding, and barefooting.  Anyway, in my case, it was weight gain.  I hope this helps.

Some people's appetites are stimulated by the narcotics, others when they get too deep stop eating as they don't feel or care about anything but the high.

Hi Elle. The effects of opiates do vary but one tell tale sign of heavy opiate use is weight loss or weight gain. Typically, It's the latter. Oxycontin and other narcotic pain relievers are known as "perfect drugs" to some because you cannot smell or taste them, and you usually will have no idea someone is one them. Most people are able to function quite well while on Oxycontin. However, you will notice when a person is NOT taking oxycontin. You may notice severe mental/mood changes, irritability, the person may experience cramps, cold/hot sweats, flu-like symptoms, and diarrhea and/or vomiting. Here is a great website that has some more information on Oxycontin.
