Hello All
I am trying to taper. I was doing 10 pills of 10/500 loratab per day. I have cut it back to 7 per day for 7 days (1 and one half every 3 hours) and I plan to start with 5 per day for seven days tomorrow, then 2 and one half pills per day for 7 days then stop all together. Does this sound like a good plan for tapering??? I am on the 7th day of 7 pills per day and I do feel a bit better today than I did earlier in the week. Seems to be getting better.
I take my first dose at 6:30 AM then at 9:30 AM and every three hours after that until my last dose at 6:30 PM. I stay awake until about 9:00 PM then take sleep meds to knock me out until the next morning. I am doing the Thomas Recipe along with this taper plan.  If anyone out there did a tapper plan I would like to know how you did it. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!!

Wow.  If we are supposed to comment on the original post then why am I being critiqued on my comments?  Isn't the point of a forum to recieve many opinions so that there is a wide range of choices?

As true as that may be, it does not mean it cannot be done in a less brutal way and or maybe even a longer route, again which is up to the discretion of the person.
Eventually someone who does want to quit bad enough, eventually will yes. But that does not mean they have to suffer doing it if they choose not to. You CAN successfully quit while tapering.

Good night everyone, hope you all have a restfull and peaceful night!

I agree with you EJ the only way to stop the pills is to stop the pills. I tapered for a month and still had 2 weeks of WD's. I believe as long as you are putting the pills in your body no matter what the amount then you are using and will have withdrawals. There just isn't any way around it. If you want to quit the pills then you have to quit them.

I think what Lady and everyone else means is a "less" brutal way of detoxing from the drug when referring to tapering.
Tapering can and DOES work, if you can stick to it. It lessens the withdrawels drastically.
That I do know from experience, I am not over my mountain yet, but I do know that tapering can be the right way for some vs c/t.

That is the wonder of "tapering", your body adjusts to the lower doses of the drug.
Even if a person can get to half of the dose they normally take and be comfortable there is worth going for.

But tapering is not for everyone just as cold turkey is not for everyone either.

I don't want to be brutal, but I have news for you.  If you take pain pills every day for 2 months and off and on for a couple years, you have a problem.  Second, everyone keeps saying taper off, but there is no way around it.  You will experience withdrawls and if you try to use the pills to curb the withdrawls, you will end up taking just as many and it will never happen.  If you truly want off the pills then work can take backseat to your life without pills.

I said in my first reply to decide if you wanted to taper or go c/t. When I was done I saw you had posted again and asked that question. lol  sorry.

Tapering is probably best in your case, as the other poster said. You can w/d slowly. You can even shave the pills. As long as you keep taking less, you're on the right track. To do it c/t would be like having a severe case of the flu times five. That's hard to hide.

You could start your taper right now. Next pill you take try cutting it as much as you are comfortable with. Keep us posted.
Take Care....LS
