paxil withdrawal

Hi, I was on Paxil for a month and I hated it. My doc told me to take 1/2 a tablet for a week combined with Welbutrin.
I am having some withdrawal symtoms. I am really cranky and at nite I cry. Is this normal and when will it stop? Oh I also hear a whooshing sound when I move my eyes.

Do a search for 'Paxil brain zaps' on Yahoo or Google. It's become pretty well documented recently but some doctors don't seem to be aware of it for some reason...

...has a fairly standard description. Just keep in mind people overwhelmingly share negative information on antidepressants on the internet than positive experiences (people like to share negative experiences more it seems). But antidepressants can and do make a positive difference in many people's lives when the right one and the right dosage is found.

That sounds like a low (starting) dose and a month is relatively short. It is normal though to have some withdrawal, mainly 'rebound' type symptoms. Which are symptoms that were present before taking the medication (usually depression and anxiety) which feel exaggerated for a time after discontinuation. Also, 'brain zaps' or disturbances in feelings when you move your eyes looking around are also possible (very similiar to 'eye fatigue' if you have been on a long drive).

Withdrawal varies greatly on how long you were taking Paxil, the individual (including your age), and if you tapered down your dose prior to discontinuing. If the withdrawal is really bothering you though - talk to your doctor about getting enough to taper down slowly so you can avoid the withdrawal symptoms.

Just to add, it usually take about a month before you start to feel any benefit from Paxil. And plenty of people have negative side-effects during that first month of use. I was one of the lucky ones and didn't have any noticeable side-effects from it during my first month. But if Paxil isn't helping after a month and the side-effects are too great - there are other antidepressants out there that will probably help. Just have to find the right one with the right dosaging and you may really benefit.

I have never taken paxil before. Can not take that class of medications. I took the welbutrin for about a week. To help put down the cigarettes. The welbutrin gave me very bad headaches.. That is all I remember about it. It did that to a few people in the class..
Sorry I could not be of more help...
