HI....I was on methadone for 6 1/2yrs and tapered off 150mg you can go prity fast when you start but when you hit 25 -20mg your taper has to be dead slow or you will experience withdrawals wouldn't be good for you or your baby and you cant taper off that amount in 5 weeks tell your O/B whats up if your getting it on the street your going to have to go to a clinic to avoid legal problems cps and such....they will take you if they do a u/a and it shows up positive for methadone we just went threw this with another young lady a few months ago everything turned out fine....as long as the hospital knows in advance they can treat the baby and detox her...I am personal friends with an icu neo/natal nurse that handles babys that come in addicted to heroin methadone oxy ext and the babys come out fine with treatment she may have to be in the hospital a few extra days but she will be fine dont worrie yourself congrats on becoming a mom im the father of 5 and wouldn't trad it for anything good luck and God bless everything is going to work out.....Gnarly

I know it's scary but you really really need to tell your doctor. Telling shows that you are being proactive and putting the baby FIRST. If you tell them they will NOT take your baby away, they will be able to help the baby with the wds once he or she is born. But not telling them could have disastrous results for your baby. Wds are horrid and I'm sure you don't want your baby suffering like that for even a minute. No baby deserves to suffer like that. So PLEASE, PLEASE tell your doctor. Like I said in the above post - they will find out anyways when the baby is born if you say nothing. They are well trained to recognize the symptoms of wd in newborns and will be very upset that you didn't tell them. If they have the heads up your baby will get the care he or she needs right at birth and not suffer. There are many women who go through what you are and they don't have their babies taken away *as long as they are honest with the doctors*. The doctors will work with you if your honest. But put yourself in their shoes for a sec - can you see how they would question your ability as a mother if you let your child suffer wds? But telling them shows you have the ability to make good judgments for your childs well being and they will NOT take your baby. They will appreciate and respect your honesty and be able to prepare ahead of time and help wean your baby off so he or she does not suffer those horrible wd pains. I truly hope you make the right decision.

Hi jinna........Please you need to tell your doctor about this.  The hospital staff needs to know just in case the baby does go thru wd's.   If you dont tell anyone DSS will be involved for sure.  I know you are scared but do what is right for this baby and you~~~~~sara

I know your scared sweetie, but look at it this way, if you just quit, it could cause you to go into labor early, and you baby could go through withdrawals even then. If you don't tell any1 and you have your baby, your baby might go into withdrawals, if that happens, DSS will be notified anyways. So I really believe your best option right now is to just tell your doc so they can prepare, and explain that you have been trying to taper off. That is best for your baby, and DSS will be less likely to get involved if you are trying to get clean, but If you go in and have the baby, the baby suffers withdrawals and no one knows that before hand, in looks even worse on you! Please tell your doctor, do it asap! I'm not trying to scare you, my doctor just told me about a lady, who was abusing pain meds and didn't tell any1, her baby went into withdrawals, the baby was very sick, so they did tests, it showed up in the babies system and the baby was taken away because she didn't tell any1! So I again urge you to come clean and tell your doctor, your doctor might be able to help you taper down a little more! But if you need to talk more please send me a message! I wish you all the best!

If your doctor is not aware of your methadone use you need to make him aware. Babies born addicted go through the same horrible wds we do and need immediate medical attention as soon as they are born. They literally need to be weaned off the drugs. Do not try and "hide" it..theres no use. Babies born addicted show MANY signs..high pitched, disctinct scream and erratic blood pressure, etc. Do not play russian roulette with your babies life. Don't mean to be harsh but you need to know that the medical implications that hiding it have are very serious. Come clean and you'll be fine and get the help you need and so will the baby.

Hi there, I don't have an answer for you either. I don't know much about that drug. But does your obgyn know about this? If not please please say something, if they know what to expect when your baby is born, they can treat it as necessary. Its hard to say weather your baby will go through withdrawals or not, but if no one knows what your taking your baby could suffer greatly. I am in a similar situation, I'm not abusing drugs, but I'm on a large amount of percocet per day for a horrible back injury, which my obgyn prescribes, they are sending me to speak with the head nurse at the nicu, so they can make a plan for if my baby does have withdrawals afterwards. But I wish you good luck, please ask your obgyn about this question, and do not just quit cold turkey, this can be more dangerous for your baby. If you would just like some1 to talk to, you can of course send me a message! Again good luck, and congratulations on trying to do the best for your baby!

Hi Jinna, sorry that I can't answer your questions but there are girls here that are very familiar with situations like yours and they can help you.  Sometimes it takes a little while for someone to get back with you but they will.  Hugs to you and I will say a prayer for you and your baby.  Are you having a boy or a girl?
