question for a nurse or anyone

Question

Okay i was just thinking about the 3 yrs of using....In those yrs i have never really been sick...Meaning flu, bad cold, strep throat etc....But before the pills , i swear i caught the flu every yr, and strep at least twice a yr..
Now that i am clean, i have had a terrible cold, chest hurting, throat....I have not ran fever yet!!!

Could it be because of all the tylenol in the pills that even if i would of had it i would not have known?
or is it the opiate?
not sure if this has happened to anyone else, so just wondering..

i haven't gotten bronchitis sick, which i normally do over the winter months...but i did get a cold and some sinus infections even when i was on my pain meds....maybe it just has a lot to do with people immune systems and such. or mayb you did get a little sick, but considering that opiates work a lot on your brain receptors so you DON"T register pain, etc, maybe it does the same with sickness? have no clue...

and ps on that zicam stuff, it messed me up! i felt all loopy and like i was going to get sick...i. took it once and quit. has it done this to anyone else besides me?

I've often wondered this myself.  I haven't caught a cold in a looonnng time.  Last month, my sis and hubby were both really sick and I never so much as sneezed.  What I have thought about is, sometimes doctors will prescribe codeine for coughing.  It dries you up.  So inturn, if you are "low" on mucus in your nose, throat, etc. I believe it's harder for you to catch a germ.  I'm no expert, but that's just what i have come up with.

Very interesting that you say that because while I was using I never got sick either, but prior to that it seemed I was often sick,but I suppose I related that because I stopped nursing and started back into college to study engineering while completing my first book. hmm I am going to bring this up to my doctor and see if he finds this interesting as well.

thanks, will get the zicam...It is just really strange to me how i was never sick on pills...In my mind i was thinking well maybe it was camoflaging somethings i have that all really bad, like cancer, etc...LOL that is the paronoid mind talking after realizing what these pills may have done....

our immune systems are shot from this thing. i agree totally with zicam. others say it is bull but i use it and have yet to get a bad cold. a little sniffle..but the zicam works wonders.

I believe it matters a lot in what stage of recovery your body is in. When our body is stressed out our immune system is also suppressed. It can take awhile for our bodies to start repairing itself even over a year for some I am sure,but I cannot emphasize enough the need to use vitamin supplements and I highly encourage the use of Zicam when you feel the initial symptoms of a cold coming on. This stuff is a herbal remedy,but from personal experience very effective. You know also I am sure that drinking a sufficient amount of water is important as well.

LMAO!!!!  okay now my memory is still bad, but i keep blaming that on having 4 kids, 2 dogs ,2 cats, husband , job , and too damn much on my plate....But hey it makes me feel better to think of it that way...Try it....;lol

I did still get sick occasionally while on the pills and i think it did a lot MORE damage to more than just my immune system...I was looking up the therapist # today and i couldn't find it...i realized about 3 mins. later it was because i looked her up under her first name....WTF?!?!?!?

That is very interesting. I was sick even on the pills! I also think I did damage to my immune system with their use. But who knows? I have a lousy immune system anyway.

I would like to know the answer to that myself... I am a walking magnet for cold and viruses. But, when taking the pills I could be around anyone sick and not get it. Now I have a cold??? Very good question.
