Hi Patmac; This is the very reason I started with this site - seeking information about going this route. I was at 140 mg of Oxy per day and had been for 14 years. As almost everyone else who visits this site, I was wanting to find a way to end an addiction with the minimal amount of W/D pain. I checked into about 4 or 5 different places that offer the so called 'Rapid Detox' and found a difference in prices ranging from $9800 in Las Vegas to about double that amount in Florida. It seemed to be the same procedure -- The one that looked the best to me was the one in Vegas that advertises that "No one needs to know why you really came to Vegas" --- The doctor is a board certified Anesthesiologist. They say they put you to sleep and wake you when you are clean - about ten to twelve hours later. Then you stay in the hospital for 3 to 4 days while you recover from the procedure. I have corresponded with several people who have had the procedure but was unable to find one who said they would do it again -- Most said it did not elliminate their withdrawals and they still suffered a lot. Most of the doctors who do this also implant a device in you that releases Naloxone - the substance in Suboxone to keep you from using again. As I checked further I found that there were many lawsuits in this procedure and even some deaths reported. Well, that is my research so please do your own checking before you put up that much cash. I did get clean but did it the old fashioned way -- had a lot of help from people on this site - lots of encouragement and help on here. What I have learned is simply that there really is NO painless way of getting off the dope -- If there is I have not heard anyone testify about it. I have also learned an important thing - that is that we (all of us) are stronger than we think we are. All of us perceived ourselves as cowards but when we wanted to get clean we were able to just 'bite the bullet' and go through the withdrawals. Yes, it was tough but very doable. The worst forms of getting clean (in my opinion) is Methadone and Suboxone -- Unless you have an addiction to Heroin, these methods are a living he!! and so much harder to come off of. Well, for what it is worth, that is my story and I wish you well as you look at your options. The most important thing though, is that you get clean -- You are going to like the person you become. All the best.
The jury is still out for that one.....research some studies done in Quebec......they had some deaths there that were associated with that procedure.......one problem that seems to come up that I have noticed is the mental end of withdraws.......just getting sick a couple days is not all there is to withdrawing from opiates. There are many head trips to address after the fact of just quiting putting the pills in yourself. The rapid detox doesnt address these parts of the equation........and I dont see how they could. More to it than just shutting down the receptors and washing the brain with narcane. Its also very expensive.
If I could have, I would have gone that route, regardless if proven or not. Anything's better than waiting it out in my opinion. Especially if you don't have much time off of work.
