I've read about amino acids as a supplement, along with vitamins and minerals, to easy post acute withdrawal symptoms. During a past period of sobriety, I made an effort to exercise during the PAWS phase of recovery, eat well and take vitamins. I can say that it seemed to make me feel better. The malaise that primarily affects people during the months following detox is a big problem that I think is underestimated in its effects on a persons' ability to stay clean for the long term.
With that in mind, I'd like to know which amino acids in particular offer the most benefits in helping the nervous system and brain recuperate. I'm going to detox tomorrow morning. It's a methadone detox and I know from experience that not only will I not be fully detoxed after 7 days. Like all detoxes in MA, they step you down 5 mgs a day, starting from a 30 mg dose on the first day. Not the ideal detox, but it's better than cold turkey with clonodine, which is what you usually get, if you're lucky, if you detox in the city or county jail.
I've been trying to do as much research online in advance as I can cause even though I've been dealing with this addiction for going on 10 years, it doesn't get any easier. Like most people say, it seems to get harder each time so I'll take any edge I can get. At 39 I'm still relatively young and have a chance at a healthy life. I can take all the supplements I can find( and a reputable site I can find them online), but I know from experience that I need the help and support I've gotten in the past from AA and NA. For even the agnostic, those rooms are a godsend and I plan to attend meetings daily for at least the first 90 days. Thanks in advance and god bless to anyone who knows which amino acid supplements would help me through this.
For anyone who may be reading this forum for the first time, you should really appreciate this resource cause the rest of the world to easily write us off as incorrigible scumbags who deserve what we get and offer only mean spirited criticism, even a lot of health care professionals who should know better. Good luck and thanks again.
