Hello, and thank you for your friendly comment on my thread!

Ok, so I totally know what you are going through because I have been through it, unfortunately more than once.  The very first time I did this, I had been going strong for 2 years straight (percocet).  The withdrawals that time were pretty brutal, but really only lasted 4 days!  I think by like the 5th day I began to do things, and after 30 or so days, I clearly forgot just how much withdrawals suck, and I began to ponder the idea of starting up again, ultimately leading me back to where I am now! it truly *****!

I am sorry to say this, and I wish it was not true, but it is... these next couple of days are going to be rough.  There really is nothing that can be done for withdrawals.  The only thing that truly worked for me to give me any sort of relief was super hot baths!! I spent the first 3 days in the bathtub, literally.  So every time you just think you cant take it anymore, draw a steaming hot bath and submerse yourself in it.  Even close your eyes! That was truly the only thing that kept me strong.  You can do this, you have to believe in yourself.  And you have to realize that after the physical is done, there will be a lot of mental stuff you have to deal with.  Fatigue is pretty intense for at least 2 weeks after, so you are going to have to be ok with not being 100% for awhile.  I know you dont want to hear that, I didnt either, but it is simply the truth.

I pray you will be spared terrible withdrawals, but the reality is that your brain has not produced endorphins in 2 years, so it may take some time to get back to your pre-abuse days.  I know the idea of meetings totally *****, but I have finally realized that maybe these people who have clean time in the 3 or 4 digits know what they are talking about!  Even if you only go once a month (if that is all you need), it will be nice to have people around you who know what it is like, and also dont judge you.  I truly believe if you have never been through it personally, one cant understand!

Good luck, and keep posting. It really helps!

Congrats on wanting to get your life back! It's not an easy battle but is one that can be won. There is proof all over this forum.
Check in to the amino acid protocol which can be found in the health pages in the upper right hand side of the screen. It lists some vitamins and supplements to help during withdrawals. The really do help. Also be sure to be exercising during withdrawals. I know it's hard to muster up the energy to do so but force yourself even if it's just a short walk around the block. The more we lay around the more we tend to think and we know what is on your minds during withdrawals. Do anything you can think of to keep your mind occupied. Pick up a good book, rent some funny movies, do a jigsaw puzzle, anything but laying around!
Be sure to come on here and post as often as needed. The support is second to none. I know I couldn't have done it without all of the wonderful people here.
Try and stay as positive as possible. You can beat this!
Best of luck.

Brian

Also make sure to stay hydrated. Push fluids. Take hot baths for the aches and immodium for the stomach issues. Try and stay occupied and if you can, take short walks. It will help with the rls.

Be careful with the advil pm. It made my rls 10 times worse and I have heard that from several people.

Try and get on and talk here when you can. It does help to just get it all out and pass the time.

I hope you both make it this time. My thoughts are with you.

Hi & Welcome,

I gotta tell you, one person getting clean is hard enough---two people in the same house is even harder. You are both going to have to buckle down and decide to really do this.

You are right, it isn't easy but if you stick to it within a week it will be over, the physical anyway.

I would suggest tapering but that is best done when someone holds them for you and gives them to you according to a schedule. That has to be a non-addict person.

So cold turkey is probably the best way for you guys to go. I would begin by putting the straw down. That alone is very addictive behavior. You are spiking the dose by doing that and causing your mind and body to crave it sooner.

I'm guessing you tried to stop before .. unsuccessfully?
