?s about vicodin

Hi! I'm having some questions about some news I received from my doctor today and wondering if anyone could help me with some answers. I've been prescribed vicodin ES for the last 3 months or so. I take them approximately 3 x's a day. They were given to me for a chronic back problem I've had since my early teens. (I'm 27 now). I was given a drug test at my doctors office followed by one at the hospital. I assumed that this was to be sure that i hadn't been abusing any medications. The 1st time I believe I was out so the vicodin didn't show on the test. However, the next time at the hospital, I know I had taken at least 2 the day before but none that day. That test showed negative for vicodin as well. Due to the lack of it in my system, they will not prescribe me anymore. I think they think I'm selling it or something! This is the doctor my entire family sees and that I take my children to! I don't understand how the 2nd test could show nothing. I understand the potential for abuse with this medication and if I had found any other method of relief, I would much rather do something other than taking these strong painkillers to mask the pain. To date, this is the only thing that has worked. So, my question is, how long is the MINIMUM time that vicodin can stay in your system? I have a fast metabolism....I'm 5'5", 130 lbs...I also drink a LOT of coffee each day (like about 20 cups a day) . I have 3 children, my oldest has adhd, and my fiance has 2 that we have half the time, so needless to say, I'm very active. Could these factors have resulted in a negative test 24 hours later?

By the way, I want to tell everyone that I think this site is wonderful. I have had loved ones who had struggled with addictions and I only wish I would have known about this site sooner. Perhaps I could have helped them more.

Thank you!

We lost power last night so I wasn't able to get back on. Sherri, my perscription is for 7.5 mg. The dosage is 1 every 8 hours. They don't last that long so I take Motrin 800 mg in between. I ran out at the time my perscription was supposed to. I had 90 pills for 30 days. And I've taken them 3 months, not years. As far as whether they are timed realease or not, I don't know but they only last for 4-5 hours so I don't think so.

Thank you everyone for your responses!

I was hoping you might've had enough pills left to show the doc that you do take them as prescribed...  I'm not really sure what you can do at this point other than what you already said.  It's possible that sometimes the vicodin moves quickly and other times it doesn't.  Maybe you could volunteer for drug tests for the next couple of months to see if they can find some kind of pattern.

I would, if I had any more. But the last time I was prescribed any was over a month ago so I'm out, which is why I contacted the doctor. I have an appointment tomorrow. I want to at least clear my name, so to speak, so I thought I would ask her to give me one in the office and return the next day for another test to prove they don't last that long in my system but if it for some reason does show, I'll look like a liar!

Generallly opiates stay in the system for 3-5 days.  But everyone's body is different and it's possible that you have a faster metabolism than other people.  Is there any way you could bring your prescription and pills into the doctor to show him that you aren't selling them?
