side effects of methadone

My son is on methadone (120 Mg) he has been on it about 4 months now. I suspect that he is also bi-polar because his father is and they exhibit some of the same tendencies ( a lot of ups and downs) my son is always very tired (he nods off)very quick to anger and very forgetful. his whole personality has changed, we used to be best buddies but now he thinks i'm too critical and that I am only noticing these things because I know he is on methadone and I don't like it. He says he was never on heroin and was getting other opiates and methadone on the street. Could the things I mentioned above be a side effect of methadone or should we be looking for some other reason.If these thing are a side effect weould lowering the dose help or maybe more time for his body to get used to it ? before the maint program he was not taking methadone every day  thanks for any help you can give

that you are having to go through this w/ your son.  I can't imagine your pain.  However, there are a few ppl here that would be great to talk to.  My mom-in-law is one, I'll tell her to get on her computer and answer and Lizzie Lou is another.  I truely hope you get the answers you need to help your son.  It certainly shows how great of a mom you are to learn as much as you can to help.  I wish you all the best.

Being quick to anger is a side effect of taking Opiates...is one thing I have noticed..in a huge way...I am assuming the meth would be quite similar.......yet i have never been on meth so I dont know for sure!

Opiates make me very moody..the higher the dose...the moodier I got.....and just a bit flippy..........

Hang in there! Find some ppl to relate with on the board..and keep reading.............
