Still hope you will do the research on Suboxone and Subutex ---  Taking 240 mg of MS Contin plus Lortabs for breakthrough is a huge difference from only taking 6 to 8 lortabs a day.  To trade this relatively small amount for an addiction to Sub is probably the single worse mistake one could make - with the possible exception of going on Methadone.  I do really appreciate Christo sharing his opinion on Sub and Meth though ---  I love that people on both sides of these issues can come on here and respectively disagree-- Leave the final decision in the hands of those who want to get off the dope.  I too was an avid advocate of using Sub while I was on it --- I would be so interested in hearing from Christos after he comes off of Methadone.  Wish you all the best.

i was on a suboxone treatment program for over 8 months and manage to not touch even once my two DOC's heroin and oxycontin, which i had a severe addiction for over two years too. i would doctor shop for anything vicodin, vicoprofen, norcos, percocets, anything to help ease the withdrawals i was going through on a daily basis. it was terrible to even feel semi-ok and not have withdrawals i would need to take at least 8-10 10mg lortabs or norcos. it controls your life completely. For your addiction to lortabs, which most ppl end up being prescribed them for legit pain, but after a couple of months and  a couple of refills later you find yourself hooked on them, a suboxone treatment would work best for you. trying to quit on your own is too hard, and believe ive tried a hundred times and tried everything home detox method possible.i tried tapering down, i tried using tramadol to ease the wd's and was able to stay clean for two months, but eventually itll find a way to come right back, and it comes back worse and worse everytime. its a daily struggle and battle. subutex is primarily used duringthe first few days of the treatment agenda. subutex is purely buprenprphine, whereas suboxone is buprenorphine and naloxone(a opiate antagonist) together, though taken properly the naloxone is ineffective and has no effect. i didnt even use subutex after trying on my own three thousand times, failing everytime, finally realizing i need professional help. i went to detox and the three days till i saw the suboxone doctor was pure hell. they had me on clonidine which does help alot with the wd's, lorazepam every half hour, anti-nausea meds, immodium for the diarrhea, and ambien at night for some sleep(About a couple of hours. i can tell you i never want to relive those three days ever again-ever, i wish that horror upon no one. but i can tell you that suboxone can truly help a ton with getting clean and sober from opiates, especially addictions to hydrocodone or oxycodone. it completely curbs the withdrawals and help a lot with the mental cravings. its not a miracle drug that 100% guarantees you wills tay clean forever, but its as close as you can get to that. you have to want to quit as well, medication cant be the only key to recovery. going to na meetings,g roup meetings, one on one meetings with a counselor or a sponsor is a huge and essential role in staying clean. i did all of that and was on the highest effective dose of suboxone at 32 mgs a day and after 8 months i severely shattered and fractured my wrist in several spots in a fall. the stupid part was that i let my docor/addiction specialist take me down to 4mgs of suboxone(and then 1 month later take me off of it completely) and then put me on MS Contin(morphine time release)-240mgs a day and norcos 7.5 mgs for breakthrough pain, why he decided taht was a good idea i ahve no idea, but i sure didnt stop him and taht was the addict still in  me, here i was clean from taking any form of opiates at all for over 8 months and then its completely gone. i went to detox november 3rd 2007 and i can honestly say i still havent touched oxycontin or heroin once, but those 3 months where i was on the ms contin and norcos put me right back into the vicious cycle of addiction. before it got too bad to where i couldnt fix it and lost complete control i decided to do something about it. i left that doctor and started going to a methadone clinic. i can say it saved my life. i really believe suboxone works extremely well for lots of ppl, but for others methadone is a better choice, but like i said everyone is different, so one treatment may be good for you where as others may not find it working. i am on 95 mgs of methadone a day, i havent touched any opiates since starting which its been over 5 months and i can say im living a structured, stable, motivated life right now and i have absolutely no cravings or thoughts of ever going abck to my DOC'S. give suboxone a shot it really may work for you,if you have any questions at all regarding any treatment let me know-christos

I on the otherhand had no withdrawal from sub the last time I used it.  I relapsed and have currently been on Sub 6 days and am going to start tapering tomorrow.  I take 8mg two times a day and don't feel withdrawal when my 12 hours are up and time for more, so I am expecting good results again.  It is a wonderful drug in my book but most insurances won't cover and the office visits for me are $250 a piece and 60 8mg Subs cost me 386 dollars...........worth it though!

Hi Pjb---- Please go to the Health Pages (top right of your screen) and then to page two ---  Read the post labeled "Members experiences coming off of Sub."   Everyone who is considering using Sub should read this and all they can before they decide.  I was one of the ones who didn't know about these reports and took Sub for 21 days -- thought I had found the perfect way to get off of Oxy -  Until I tried to come off of Sub --- W/D's were 10 times worse than if I had just tapered off my Oxy and Hydro.  Using Sub to quit a Hydro addiction is like using an Atomic bomb when all you need is a hand grenade.  Sub is a much more powerful narcotic than Hydro -- about 40 times more potent, and while the advocates (and web sites advertising it) sing its praises -- you will find very few who have ever quit using it to join the chorus ----  One doctor who knew it well called the experience quitting it "The Suboxone Spanking".  The problem with the doctors who prescribe it is they mostly do not have a clue or they just don't care --- they get a fat fee for many years from those they get to take it  - and some know that once you start on it, it is next to impossible to ever quit it.  Just do your research before you decide.   For several months I have noticed that the ones (myself included) who once praised Sub, totally changed their minds and opinions when they tried to come off of it.  They admit that all Sub did was to change their drug of choice.   Wish you all the best.

if lortab and vicodin are the same, why are they called something diff? is it just because diff companies manufacture them?

you really need to do your research on subutex/suboxone....it is definately not for everyone.  pjb49, i am on the suboxone/opiate withdrawl program and there are benefits to suboxone, but also some very big negatives depending on the length you will be on the sub.  a quick taper on the sub seems to help most, and i have not personally read or researched anything that states otherwise.  but this i do not know, i have been on sub long term (almost 10 months now) and almost at the end of my taper...i have been starting to feel w/d's and they get more uncomfortable as my dose is lowered, but that is me....everyone is different.  please, just do as much research as you can before you start this program.  hope i have helped.  good luck and best wishes....take care!!!
