I am saddened because of what these babies have to go through!! It is the doctors fault and the doctors need to be held accountable for these actions!!And women are mislead by these Doctors!! It is all about the money with them!!!!But what can these women do that the question!!!To be honest yes CPS will get involved in your life and they will find you at fault!!I I cant tell you to stop taking your meds either because Im not a doctor!!But plz seek further advise Thanks Valarie

I just recently found out I was pregnant and my sub doctor was really pissed at me and told me he would not prescribe me anymore than a months worth of subutex which I only take 2mg a day so I am hoping I can taper off without experiencing any wd's. Stopping subutex cold turkey can be not only harmful to you but it can cause miscarriage or early delivery of the baby so you should talk with you obgyn and tell her your situation...she might be able to prescribe you subutex herself or refer you to someone who will. Also does anyone know if I should remain on 2mg of subutex throughout my entire pregnancy or if I should taper slowly over the next month? I just dropped down from 4mg or 3mg to 2mg a day and I am not experiencing any wd's. Please let me know what you guys think.

Hey julez. I am so glad you took our advice and was honest with the doctors. They were then prepared to help your baby. How is he doing ?
How much did he weigh and how long was he?
I am glad things are working out for you and your babe.
GOD bless you and your baby

Thanks! Yea i was very honest with all the nurses and doctors about me being on subutex, thats one of the first things i told them when i got there and they were all very nice n understanding. Thats also one of the things CPS was happy about that i was honest with everyone from the start cause they said if i didnt tell them and they saw the baby having signs of W/D i could of made it alot worst cause subutex doesnt come up in the drug screen. CPS also came to my house and the lady was super nice an i clean all.....the time so the house looked good. They saw i have everything and more for the baby an his room is all done it looks so nice. I think CPS wants me to take meetings cause of my A-HOLE!!! subutex doctor. He is so mean an does nothing but look down at you. Ive seen him 4 times so far and passed all his drug test an blood test and he makes it seam like i still do pills or something cause he'll be like CPS is involved now so you better be doing the right thing cause they wont go away. Its one of those you had to be there thing to understand but CPS said they'll send me to a different doctor and they'll pay for everything but if i do that then my case will stay open untill i know longer treat with them. They do understand the doctor is a jerk an are on my side about that so thats good cause he told CPS that he got a bad vibe off me. I dont know why maybe cause my tattoos an red hair but whatever. Oh an yes i go see my baby EVERY!!!! DAY!!!  2 times a day. Sometimes 3 times if i have the gas money cuz the hospital isnt real close. I always call first to find out what time he eats so i can feed him when i get there and yes i deff wanna get off the subutex. I want know reason to have issues with my child or any kind of drug in the home. Its not a drug but its not safe if he got a ahold of one or something. Plus im sick of having to take something to feel normal.

hey julez,
congratulations on the birth of your son. i am glad to hear that he is handling the withdrawals ok. it is good that you stayed on the subs as we suggested because you could have had pret-term labor. can i ask you if you were honest with the doctor and told him? well you have to do what cps is telling you. are you tapering off the subs now?
are you spending time with the baby each day?
sending hugs ,hope and prayers

Hey guys its julez! Just wanted to give a follow up of everything cause i havent wrote in awhile. Well i had the baby and he is just so damn cute! I asked you guys alot about how everything would play out and everyone was very helpful. It sounded alot better then it turned out of course, the baby did show signs of W/D from the subutex after 24hrs which i was really hoping he would of been fine cause i was on such a low dose but the nurse said every baby is different. Some can take it and some cant so now he's gonna be staying in the hospital for a few weeks so they can treat him an ween him down. So far he has been weened down 3 times an is doing great. He never crys, he eats good, sleeps all the time and the nurses say babies can handle it cause it scares me alot. I also asked you guys about CPS coming in and of course they did. They want me to take meetings which is ******** is you ask me cause i dont have a drug addiction thats why i take subutex and have been for 2 years but i guess cause it toke me so long to get a doctor and was buying subutex off the streets thats why. If anyone takes subutex or suboxone then they know how much it cost for the doctors visit which is like $150 and the script which is real high like $300 if you dont have insurance. I dont know what is gonna happen im so scared about all of this. Its even harded trying to hide this from some of my family. I just pray every night that my baby will be ok and everything will work out cause know one should have to deal with this with there first baby but i can only blam myself. I wish i could of just jumped off like i wanted to but i could of really hurt my baby or even worst i could of lost him. Sorry for writing so much guys its just alot i have held in and i gotta get it out or im gonna break down.

I would be honest with the nursing staff and doc about your wishes to exclude you bf mom from any conversations about scoring or subs. Have you thought abouyt what you will tell her if your baby does withdraw. My son took a day to start withdrawing.

ok that sounds alot better and yea i only take subutex the 2mg but some days when i feel really bad i take just 3mg or 4mg but know more but the past 2 weeks i stay under 3mg cause my due date is so close. The main reason why im so scared of CPS is cause if my brother or my boyfriends dad is at the hospital to visit the baby im scared CPS will show up and just talk to us about it while there in the room. My mom knows im on subutex and so does my bf mom and it was very hard telling his mom cause she thinks so highly of me and i feel like i let her down. She understands im on the subutex cause her son is to but she would have never guessed me to. Now if my brother or my bf dad finds out!!! It wont be pretty they will flip the hell out. I just wish i could have a normal birth with out all this stress an know my baby is healthy. All's i know is every doctors visit i have the doctor says the heart beat is good my baby is 7lbs which is normal, every blood test comes back good, and all my ultrasounds came out good n baby moves all the time so that makes me feel better. I just want my baby not to go threw W/D at all!!!! Atleast i know CPS will go away once they see a doctor has me on subutex an thats all thats in my system i would never do drugs while pregnant. Ill just feel like the biggest peace of **** if my baby had to stay at the hospital while i got to go home. Sorry to talk so much just feels good to get it out cause my mind is always racen.

Hi Julez,

Yes, that is correct, or at least it is in Michigan - if the baby is born and goes into withdrawals, CPS will step in to see why.  Once they verify you are taking the Subutex by prescription through your prescribing doctor, they will close the case.  Your family doesn't necessarily have to know, they don't interview your family unless you were doing illegal drugs (and you said you weren't).  The only reason why your family would find out is if the baby needed to be placed with them due to illegal activity (such as testing positive for THC, opiates, etc.) on your part and it doesn't sound like you are on anything but the Subutex as you stated.  And, at 2 mgs., it is most likely your baby will not go through withdrawals, but everyone is different.  I only managed to get down to a little under 4 mgs. and my baby was just fine.  Will you please keep up posted on what happens?  I am wishing you a very happy, safe birth and I think both you and baby should be just fine :)

I have been thru this recently. They wont take away your baby for treating an adiction and if you had stopped taking it during you pregnacy your baby could have withdrawn. They will send a referal to CPS mostlikely, they did with us. They will test your babys Stool for drugs when it is born. I hope your clean other than that. My Son had withdraw symtems and had to stay at the hospital for 11 days. That was rough cause they kept him in a dark room and suggested I didnt touch him because it could over stimulate him. He was given fenabarbital and still takes it to this day.

Thanks so much you were a big help. Yea the only thing in my system is subutex thats it. So your saying if the baby does go threw some kind of W/D from the subutex they will still be involved but then go away once they see my doctor has me on it? God i wish they wouldnt come around at all i cant have some of my family knowing im on subutex. But it is what it is i guess.

Hi,

If your baby is born and then goes into withdrawals, yes, CPS will be called in to do an investigation as to why the baby is going through withdrawals.  The baby will be tested when born (every single baby is tested now) and if there is anything else in your system besides Subutex, CPS will be called in.  Subutex does not show up as an opiate in the testing.  You should be ok if that is the only thing you are taking and that is a small amount to get down to so the baby has little chance of going through withdrawals.  Also, if CPS were to get involved, all they have to do is look at your medical records and they will see that you are prescribed the Subutex and CPS would then close the investigation.  I just had a baby on March 8th and was/am on Subutex.  I also got down to the smallest dose possible and the baby didn't have any problems and because there was nothing else in mine or the baby's testing, CPS did not get involved.  I understand that you are not allowed to get off of it completely as it would be harmful to both you and the baby at this time.  Even though 2 mgs is a small amount, you would still have withdrawals which would put the baby in stress, so it is NOT wise to jump off the Subutex as your doctor advised.

So to sum it up, if anything besides the Subutex shows in yours or the baby's system, CPS will get involved.  If the baby is born and then goes into withdrawals, CPS will get involved, but once they verify that you have a prescfription for the CPS, they would verify that and then quickly close the investigation.  I wish you the best of luck and congrats on your upcoming newborn baby :)
